Alice Springs visitor centre, Monte’s Lounge among latest break-in victims

A spate of break-ins across Alice Springs has hit the visitor information centre and one of the town’s most popular bars. See the damage.

The Alice Springs visitor centre and a popular bar are the latest businesses hit in a string of break-ins across the Red Centre.

Southern Watch Commander Allan Milner said police were called to the tourist information centre in Todd Mall about 1.45am Tuesday.

“They’ve allegedly smashed the glass front door to gain entry but we’re still waiting to find out what was stolen,” Commander Milner said.

“The only reason we realised there was a break-in is because security responded to an alarm.”

A few hours later, Monte’s Lounge on Todd Street was broken into and three people seen running from the address.

It is alleged the group smashed a side glass window to enter the bar at 4.55am Tuesday.

NT Police also responded to three residential break-ins over the past 24 hours, with the contents of two of those homes left untouched.

A Giles Street home and granny flat in East Side was unlawfully entered about noon Monday, police said.

Commander Milner said glass louvres were removed on both premises but nothing was stolen.

Also at midday, cash was stolen from an East Side home on Davidson Street after it was broken into.

Police said the home’s flyscreen was cut and louvres were opened.

A short time later, a Sadadeen home on Mistletoe Street was broken into after a front glass window was smashed.

Police were called to the scene about 1.30pm, with nothing reported to be stolen from the residence.

Armed trio break into business, scaring employee

Police are hunting three men who broke into a business, threatened a staffer and nabbed a car in Tennant Creek on Sunday.

Sergeant Hayley Duncan said the offenders made their move on the Skipper Street business about 7am.

A 65-year-old male employee stumbled on the trio after noticing car keys were missing.

He went outside to investigate and came face-to-face with two of the men.

One had a weapon, forcing the victim to flee for safety.

The men drove away in a gold Kia Cerato sedan but later dumped it.

Tennant Creek general duties located the vehicle abandoned a short time later.

Sergeant Duncan said police were seeking dash-cam footage or home CCTV footage.

“Investigators are interested to speak with anyone who may have witnessed the incident or observed the stolen motor vehicle driving around on Sunday morning,” Sergeant Duncan said.

“There is no excuse for this sort of behaviour in our community.”

Bull stomps on man

A man had his neck “stomped on” by a bull while on a property near Manton Dam, about 70km south of Darwin, on Saturday.

St John NT operations manager Craig Garraway said the 21-year-old and his family met ambos in the Noonamah area where the injured man was then rushed to hospital.

“We transported him into the Royal Darwin Hospital with not too serious injuries but obviously a number of neck and shoulder injuries as a result of that bull stepping on him,” Mr Garraway said.

“That’s my understanding, that a bull stepped on him, I’m not sure how that’s all transpired – a bit lucky.”

In a separate incident on Saturday, a road train driver rolled two of their three trailers about 40km south of Adelaide River.

“The driver received no injuries as a result of that but obviously a big clean-up for everyone to get the road open again,” Mr Garraway said.

CareFlight and the Adelaide River Health Centre assisted with the response to the incident.

Early on Monday morning in Darwin, three people were injured after a car “collided” with “a number” of light poles on Trower Rd.

“Two of them were transported to the RDH for treatment and one’s assisting police with injuries,” Mr Garraway said.

He said the crash created “fair bit of debris on the road”.
