A 10-year-old suffered multiple injuries when he was mauled by a dog emergency services described as a ‘nasty’ incident.

Rescue under way after 20m cliff fall at Slade Point

A young boy was mauled by a dog during a “nasty” incident in Palmerston on Monday afternoon.

St John NT operations manager Craig Garraway said the 10-year-old received “a number” of lacerations to his arms and head in Bellamack at 5pm.

“Nasty one this one – paramedics and police attended there and treated the young lad and took him up to hospital,” Mr Garraway said.

NT News understands police investigations are under way.

The attack is the latest in a concerning number of dog bites reported in the Top End, and follows a 21-month-old infant who was mauled by a rottweiler in April this year while attending a Darwin cafe.

In a separate incident, a 14-year-old boy was sent to hospital with paramedics after he and a car “collided” in Malak about 3pm on Monday.

“(There were a) number injuries to that 14-year-old, he was treated on scene by paramedics and then taken on to the Royal Darwin Hospital in a stable condition and making a full recovery there,” Mr Garraway said.

Man falls at Doctors Gully

A 30-year-old man has been taken to hospital after suffering a fall at Doctors Gully.

The incident occurred at 3.40am on Sunday on the Larrakeyah end of the Esplanade.

St John NT operations manager Craig Garraway told the ABC emergency services tended to the man.

“A 30-year-old male had a fall and there’s a lot of cliffs around there and has had quite a substantial head injuries, was quite serious,” he said.

“Paramedics looked after the male on scene and rapidly got him to Royal Darwin Hospital.”

Mr Garraway said it was not known what caused the fall.

It comes just a few weeks after two similar incidents along the Esplanade left two men in their 30s in hospital.

In 2020, a man died after a serious fall from a cliff in the same area.

Later on Sunday paramedics also attended a minor accident at the Darwin Airport.

“An aircraft there has skidded off the taxi way — airport fireys were very quick on the scene,” Mr Garraway said.

“We went out there to attend to the pilot who just had some minor lacerations as a result there.”

Mr Garraway said investigations would be under way into the incident.
