A greasy meal after a boozy night out has landed a young Alice Springs man in the hot seat, after allegedly being busted leaving a drive through four times over the limit.

NT Police Southern Watch Commander Alistair Gall said a 27-year-old man was expected to be charged with high range drink driving.

Mr Gall said at midnight police camera operators noticed a man stumbling from a pub in the city across to the carpark.

“He looked quite drunk, he was stumbling around showing the signs of intoxication,” he said.

“He then drove to McDonald’s, because that’s what you do when you’re drunk, isn’t it?”

Mr Gall said while he was familiar with a late night sneaky Macca’s run, driving there while intoxicated was “irresponsible” and “very dangerous”.

“I don’t know if he decided when he went to the pub that he would only have one or two but clearly he had more than that,” he said.

“Everyone knows after that you’ve had too many to think straight.”

While the 27-year-old placed his order, the cops set up outside the Railway Tce drive through.

Mr Gall alleged the 27-year-old failed his breath test and later produced a “very high reading” around four times the legal limit.

‘It’s just the fact it’s so irresponsible and that it’s so blatant,” he said.

“Clearly this fellow didn’t have any other plans to get home safely or legally.”

Mr Gall said the 27-year-old was expected to be charged on Sunday, to appear in court later this month.
