A Territory police officer suffered serious facial injuries after allegedly being assaulted on an otherwise routine call out in Nightcliff.

Police seize almost one million dollars in cash from an alleged syndicate

A police officer was left with serious bruising across his face in a sickening assault after responding to a domestic violence incident.

Police were called to a domestic violence incident on Progress Dr on Thursday morning.

As they arrived, an unrelated fight between two men sprung up in a nearby carpark.

Police took one of the men, a 45-year-old, into protective custody when he allegedly started throwing punches at the officer.

As a result the officer suffered injuries to his face.

St John NT paramedics arrived at the scene and took the 45-year-old to Royal Darwin Hospital after he suffered a medical episode.

Superintendent James O’Brien described the alleged violent attack unacceptable.

“The officer sustained bruising and swelling to his face, and it’s simply not acceptable,” he said.

“Police shouldn’t be assaulted, period.

“Especially when they’re in attendance to an incident where people have engaged with violence, and their role is to prevent anyone being injured.”

The man has since been bailed to appear before the Darwin Local Court on October 4.

’Particular MO’: Central Australian thieves get smart with break-ins

Central Australian police have been kept busy with four separate break-ins in a 24 hour period.

Thieves targeted three homes in Alice Springs and surrounds and the Central Australian Aboriginal Congress building, with forensic investigations ongoing.

Southern Watch Commander Allan Milner said the break-in at the Congress building had a familiar method.

He said the method the offenders used to get inside the building had been used before but was “restricted to a small number of people” police were aware of.

It is not yet known what was stolen from the Congress building.

In one of the residential break-ins, two cars were stolen with police later recovering one of them.

“A red Corolla was found in a nearby residential street — the strange things about that one was that the engine was still running,” Commander Milner said.

“A white Nissan Navara still remains missing.”

Commander Milner said a small amount of coins were also stolen from another residence during the break-ins.

Sleeping man’s 4am bedroom nightmare revealed

A man woke to three strangers in his Red Centre bedroom in the early hours of Tuesday.

Southern Watch Commander Alistair Gall said the 31-year-old woke to the movement of three intruders climbing through his bedroom window about 4am.

“He disturbed them (the intruders) and they ran through the house, exited and fled,” Commander Gall said.

“They didn’t actually take any property.”

Police believed the window of the Braitling residence was left open.

The 30-second ordeal left the “fairly robust” resident unharmed.

“I’m hoping that he will remember to close his window,” Commander Gall said.

After the burglars fled the home, the man found his unlocked ute, which was parked in his driveway, as though it had been rummaged through.

“I would assume in all likelihood they were looking for the car keys,” Commander Gall said.

The man described the three intruders as boys.
