DOES Apollo Jackson crash and burn on the season premiere of Australia’s Got Talent this Sunday night?
While a heart-stopping teaser shows The Bachelorette star performing a death-defying stunt that appears to get out of hand, the Gold Coast magician still has some tricks up his sleeve.
“I’ve always been infatuated with movies and action stuff and I’d been doing my suspended straight jacket escapes over spikes for a while,” he said.

“I got talking to some stunt guys and they’re like, ‘Let’s do it over flaming spikes, getting dropped towards them on fire’.
“We started rehearsing and more and more fuel got added.
“It got to the point where I was like, this is cool. It shows I have that daredevil personality, but I can’t tell you what happened.”

While Jackson said he’s finished with reality romance — he’s dating Love Island export Edyn Mackney — he said it was confidence that held him back from pursuing his real passion.
“I was quite nervous about (auditioning for Australia’s Got Talent) because this is what I do, what I want to make a lifetime career out of,” he said.
“When I was younger I was bullied for being a performer — whether it was dancing or whatever — so I was always shy about putting myself forward.”

Jackson was in good company, with the Gold Coast audition yielding an unprecedented number of performers.
While he has dreams of following in the footsteps of illusionist Cosentino, the Tallebudgera-based performer doesn’t believe he needs to relocate to do that.
“We are a smaller city so for years it’s been harder for dancers, artists and musicians on the Gold Coast because there’s not as many avenues or places to perform,” he said.
“I think over the next few years that’s going to change and there’s going to be a lot more work.
“You see it with things like the Viva Festival in Surfers Paradise, Swell and all of these other events kicking up.
“This is the dream place to live. I’m very happy being a Gold Coast local and I think I always will be.”
