Northern Territory Police look for alleged offenders after Diplomat Motel break ins

Police are on the hunt for alleged offenders who broke into cars and a room at busy motel in the Alice Springs CBD.

A popular Central Australian motel has been broken into overnight.

The Diplomat Motel in the centre of Alice Springs was targeted at 1.30am on Saturday, according to NT Police.

It is understood one of the rooms was broken into and personal items stolen.

The occupant of the room was not believed to be inside at the time.

About the same time a number of cars in the secure car park were also broken into.

An NT Police spokesman said investigations were ongoing into the incident.

“We’re still looking into all of it,” he said.

“There’s a lot of CCTV to be viewed and people to speak to.”

Police dogs chase children after alleged shop centre stealing spree

Police dogs and officers were forced to chase down four children accused of stealing from shops at a Casuarina shopping centre.

The young people – aged 12 to 16 – were arrested on Thursday and charged with trespass and other offences.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Bland said a group of young people were seen passing through a barricaded and closed section of the shopping centre about 7am.

He said they allegedly stole from multiple stores and ran away after they were confronted by security.

Strike Force Trident, general duties and dog operations chased them through Wanguri and Wagaman before they were caught, Detective Senior Sergeant Bland said.

The 12-year-old was charged with three counts of trespass on premises and one of serious breach of bail.

A 13-year-old will be dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act 2005.

A 15-year-old was charged with three counts of trespass on premises and one count of stealing.

The 16-year-old was charged with four counts of trespass on premises, one count of stealing and one count of serious breach of bail.

Teen driver blows almost four times over after ‘boozy’ night clubbing

A teenager has been taken to hospital under police guard after she rolled her car driving home from a “boozy” night out.

Police were called to the single vehicle rollover near 16 Mile Camp on the Stuart Highway, Johnstone, at 4am on Friday.

The driver and sole occupant of the car, an 18-year-old woman, was allegedly travelling along the inbound lanes when she rolled her red Mazda 2 sedan.

She was assisted out of the vehicle’s rear window by a passing motorist before returning a high range roadside breath test result of 0.191 per cent.

“The driver admitted to texting on her mobile phone prior to the crash having returned from a boozy night in Darwin city nightclubs,” Northern Watch Commander Mick Fields said.

“She was placed under arrest and conveyed by St John Ambulance under police guard to the Royal Darwin Hospital where she will underwent a medical examination and a blood test.

“The driver will face the Darwin Local Court at a later date on high range drink driving and other manner of driving offences.”

Commander Fields said the driver was lucky to escape with minor injuries.

“Northern Territory Police urge all members of the public to make appropriately travel arrangements if intending on consuming alcohol and under no circumstances use your mobile phone while driving,” Commander Fields said.

“Sadly the decision to get behind the wheel after consuming alcohol has resulted in fatal consequences for too many Territorians.”

Man in custody after woman stabbed in abandoned building

A man is in custody after a woman was stabbed in an abandoned Darwin building.

Police allege a woman, aged 49, was stabbed in the upper arm at the old Channel 9 building on Blake Street, The Gardens, about 5.40pm Wednesday.

“The female was reportedly going in and out of consciousness,” Northern Watch Commander Mick Fields said.

“(She) was treated by St John Ambulance at the scene and was conveyed to the Royal Darwin Hospital where she remains in a stable condition.”

A 54-year-old man who was arrested at the scene is helping with inquiries, police say.

Police investigate second assault on Darwin bus

Police are investigating another assault on public transport, which is alleged to have happened a day before a 12-year-old girl was left cut and bruised on a Casuarina bus.

It is alleged a woman of Asian descent was assaulted by a group of girls while travelling on bus number three from Casuarina to Moil on Saturday evening.

The Serious Crime Squad believes the two assaults are linked.

The female victim, who has not come forward yet, was wearing a purple top and skirt.

Police would like to speak to the woman and are asking anyone with information to call 131 444. Please quote reference number 10134271.

The 12-year-old victim from Sunday’s alleged bashing was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital with multiple lacerations and bruising.

A 13-year-old girl has been arrested in relation to the incident on Sunday.

She is due to appear in court on Thursday.

Police are continuing to investigate.

Accused booze-nabber targets one pub three times, police allege

An accused booze-stealer allegedly returned to one Palmerston pub multiple times, assaulting one employee, threatening another and repeatedly making off with alcohol.

Northern Territory Police have charged a man over the incidents, which officers alleged happened on September 28 and October 3.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Andrew Kren said the arrested 35-year-old, along with three other males, went to a the pub on Chung Wah Terrace on September 28, about 9pm.

The group allegedly assaulted a worker and stole alcohol.

Some five days later, the charged man is accused by police of going back to the pub with a weapon where they say an employee was threatened and more booze was taken.

Five minutes later, he is alleged to have re-entered the pub and stolen more alcohol.

The man has been charged aggravated robbery, stealing and furnish a false name.

The alleged offender will face Darwin Local Court on October 5.

Meanwhile, Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Kren said investigators had identified the co-offenders but they had not yet been located.

Man charged over crime spree involving alleged credit card fraud

A man has been arrested and faces multiple stealing charges following an extensive police search.

The 37-year-old was tracked down and apprehended with the help of patrol dogs in Alawa.

A Strike Force Trident investigation began after a series of fraudulent credit card transactions after a number of unlawful entries in Fannie Bay on September 22.

A car with stolen number plates involved in multiple service station drive-offs was found and the driver identified.

It is alleged he was driving a stolen vehicle while being unlicensed.

The car was later found in Malak with stolen items found inside the vehicle.

Police received information on where the man was before cordoning off a house in Alawa.

The man attempted to flee the scene but was arrested without incident.

He has been charged with aggravated unlawful use of a motor vehicle, five counts of stealing, seven counts of driving while unlicensed and possessing a schedule 2 drug.

He is expected to be in Darwin Local Court today.

Girl assaulted by woman on bus

A child suffered cuts and bruising during a “disgusting and cowardly” attack by three adults on a Darwin bus.

A woman set upon the 12-year-old girl while she was travelling on the number four bus from Parap to Casuarina on Sunday about 6pm.

The youngster was with a friend when the woman assaulted her, Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Andrew Kren said.

He said the victim and the assailant got off the bus.

Two more adults joined in the attack and only stopped when transit security officers stepped in.

The child’s family took her to Royal Darwin Hospital for treatment.

She had multiple lacerations and bruising.

“This was a disgusting and cowardly act,” Sergeant Kren said.

“Police work in partnership with transit officers and will continue to do so in an effort to reduce incidents of violence and anti-social behaviour.”

The Serious Crime Squad is investigating.
