An elderly Alice Springs man suffered ‘severe’ head injuries and remains in hospital after an alleged aggravated assault in the middle of town overnight.

An elderly man is in hospital after an alleged aggravated assault in Alice Springs overnight.
Emergency services were called to the scene out the front of the ABC Alice Springs studio on Gap Road at 9.40pm on Monday.
Southern Watch Commander Allan Milner said the 62-year-old Alice Springs man suffered “severe” injuries in the alleged assault.
“St John Ambulance were called in relation to an elderly gentleman who appeared to have been assaulted and suffered severe head injuries,” Commander Milner said.
“He was taken to (Alice Springs) hospital where he has been intubated and is in ICU.”
The man remains in hospital in a stable condition.
The Alice Springs Criminal Investigations Branch is investigating.
It is not yet known if the alleged assault involved one person or a group, or whether they were known to the man.
“At this stage police have limited detail as to how the assault occurred and we are currently collecting and reviewing CCTV in the area,” Detective Acting Superintendent Mick Schumacher said.
“We are urging anyone who was in the area at the time of the assault, has any dash cam footage of Gap Rd around 9.30pm or who witnessed any suspicious behaviour, to make contact on 131 444.
