A voyeuristic view of a newly-built CBD hotel has left neighbours’ eyebrows raised, with unsuspecting holiday-makers at risk of baring all.
One local resident took to Facebook to share his view of the Vibe Hotel on Flinders St in a photo that appeared to have been taken during the building’s construction, revealing that the accommodation’s bathtubs were in full sight.
“A new building went up across from my balcony, I certainly hope they put up blinds!!” he wrote.
“I wonder if it’s advertised as ‘an apartment with a view’.”
The post attracted dozens of comments, with one remarking they loathed the thought of “looking out their window and seeing other people’s private business”.
A Vibe Hotel spokesperson said that all of the venue’s hotel rooms had curtains, “so its guests were in control of their own privacy”.
They also said the Adelaide Hills rooms had uninterrupted windows, while rooms below level nine had frosted windows and ‘city view’ rooms did not have the bathtubs.
According to the hotel’s website, the bathtubs are located inside its ‘Urban Retreat’ rooms, which start at $349 per night.
The 123-room was the ninth major hotel to open in Adelaide since the Covid-19 pandemic hit when it welcomed its first guests in February 2023.
Designed by multi-award winning Australian architecture studio, Loucas Zahos Architects, the 18-storey hotel was a project from Adelaide-based developer GuavaLime – whose senior architect Pasquo Cassetta said it made strong use of local artisans.
Vibe Adelaide features a suspended bridge pool that allows guests to “swim” between the hotel and the neighbouring ONE Apartments.
The hotel has a lead in rate of $279, with rooms up to $739 per night.
