’The streets are crazy out here’: Love Island Winner hits out at Sydney’s dating scene

Tina Provis, the 2021 winner of Love Island, has hit out at Sydney’s dating scene, as many Sydneysiders ditch dating apps to find love organically.

Love Island Australia returns for Season 6

Reality TV star Tina Provis has hit out at Sydney’s dating scene - calling it a “nightmare”, and the “hardest place” to find love.

The 2021 Love Island Winner says she’s one of many single residents of the Harbour City who are ditching dating apps, as social media dating trends go viral around the world - showing people looking for love in public, instead of online.

“Sydney’s dating life is a nightmare, it’s hard. The streets are crazy out here, it’s by far the hardest place to find a meaningful relationship,” Ms Provis told The Daily Telegraph.

“It’s no surprise we are finding other ways to find love, because we are sick of the dating apps.

“With more people seeing these trends like grocery stores and dating events on social media, it’s more likely for everyone to ditch the apps. I’m all about it because I think we need to be getting out there and finding singles.”

It comes as viral trends on TikTok and Instagram show singles in Spain placing bananas and upside-down pineapples in their shopping carts as subtle signals they are single and ready to mingle.

Similar social media trends are now being seen in New York.

Recent research from YouGov and Smirnoff revealed 77.9% of Gen Z Australians would prefer meeting someone new in real life versus on apps or social media.

Relationship coach and counsellor, Susie Kim agreed Australians have collectively gotten sick of dating apps and over relying on them.

“A lot of them (Gen Z) are wanting to go organic, and that is because they’ve actually never experienced that before due to apps, so it’s kind of a new thing,” she said.

“There’s a lot of bad behaviour, there’s a lot of ghosting, there’s a lot of negatives with dating apps.”
