Rebel Wilson’s highly-anticipated BAFTAs hosting gig fell flat on Sunday night after several crude and cringe worthy jokes.

The Hollywood actor was slammed by viewers as “unfunny” and the “worst host” following a series of awkward moments including an offensive hand gesture aimed at Russian president Vladimir Putin.

“I’m cringing so violently watching Rebel Wilson attempt to host the #BAFTAs that I fear my eye sockets may explode,” TV commentator Piers Morgan tweeted.

“Who thought Rebel Wilson would make a good presenter? Actually feel sorry for her struggling to deliver the cringefest of ‘jokes’. Excruciating. #BAFTAs #BAFTA2022,” another viewer wrote.

“Omg! Why did they put Rebel Wilson to host the #BAFTA2022, what an absolute disaster, she is not funny at all, it is actually painful to watch …,” a third person added.

“The winner for worst host goes to … Rebel Wilson #BAFTAs.”

Fans likened Wilson’s hosting abilities to Mick Fleetwood and Sam Fox’s disastrous appearance at the BRIT Awards in 1989.

Wilson has often been hailed during past appearances including her 2020 BAFTAs speech however viewers were unimpressed this year.

The Pitch Perfect star opened the ceremony at London’s Royal Albert Hall with an eyebrow-raising joke.

“You guys might be like, why is Rebel Wilson hosting the Baftas, isn’t she Australian?” she began.

“Yes, I come from the bush. If you think about it, don’t we all?”

At one point, she referenced her 35kg weight loss.

“Everybody is asking me why did you lose weight and I was like, really it was to get the attention of Robert Pattinson,” she said.

“Because you know what they say, once you go Bat you don’t go back — just joking. I did not lose weight for just a guy, I did it to get more acting roles.

“I am so excited I can play the non-funny love interest in an Adam Sandler movie.”

Even the nominees weren’t off limits, with Wilson, 42, saying, “When you become the host they give you a list of everyone who shagged their way to the nomination. Not who you’d expect. Lots of visual effects guys.”

While introducing Leading Actress nominee Emilia Jones’ musical performance, Wilson announced two sign language interpreters on stage.

“And this is the gesture for Putin,” she said while flipping the bird.

The moment was censored by broadcaster BBC.
