Muso Joel Adams chose the hard road over making quick cash.
Adams was faced with some tough decisions over the past year as an artist that made a living off touring and playing live gigs.
A friend seriously suggested he set up an Only Fans account, where people make money off posting naked shots and videos.
“I seriously had that conversation at one point,” Adams told Confidential.
“I considered it for a week. I’ve got mates who do it and they make over $20,000 a month. So yeah, I was thinking about it for a bit.”
Confidential first met Adams in 2016, when at 19 he had amassed more than 21 million views on YouTube alone for his independently released video clip for his track, Please Don’t Go, and had appeared as a contestant on The X Factor.
Adams subsequently moved to the United States, where he has spent the past few years and is managed by Patriot Management, which looks after the likes of Pharrell Williams, One Republic and Usher.
Covid, though, forced him to move home to Brisbane. With no money coming in, it was then he thought about Only Fans.
“My mum was so off the idea,” Adams, who has been supporting The Veronicas on their Australian tour, laughed. “I want to do music and be taken seriously so if I want to do that, I can’t really do anything like Only Fans.
“If I did that, I would feel like people wouldn't. Because then if I did that, it makes me a gimmick and I am trying to get away from that and build an organic fanbase.”
