Why Bachelor In Paradise drama fails to fall on set

BI-SEXUAL hook-ups, off-screen feuds and partner swaps — no this isn’t Married At First Sight, this is all on Bachelor In Paradise but there’s a reason why some of the best drama isn’t hitting our TV screens despite so much happening behind the scenes.

BI-SEXUAL hook-ups, off-screen feuds and partner swaps — no this isn’t Married At First Sight, this is all on Bachelor In Paradise but there’s a reason why some of the best drama isn’t hitting our TV screens.

The Bachelor/Bachelorette spin-off appeared to be a promising hit with its promotional ads featuring tears, tantrums and scandal — most of it though is failing to drag in viewers.

The numbers on the Channel 10 program is scraping just a fraction of its fellow-dating program Married At First Sight, which achieved on average more than one million viewers per episode.

Bachelor In Paradise is sniffing a wilted rose with just about 600,000 viewers and there is an obvious reason for this.

Reality bites.

Most of the contestants on the love island show have already been on set, felt the impact of viewers’ backlash and copped the downfall of 15-minutes of fame.

Even though they’re back for a round two, the Bachelor In Paradise contestants have walked media red carpets, they’ve been grilled over who they’re dating, they’ve been papped and had their private lives ripped from underneath them.

So, well, they’re all holding back but that doesn’t mean there isn’t genuine scandal behind the scenes.

Megan Marx, who entered the show this week, told Confidential today she actively stays out of the spotlight despite hooking up with fellow contestant Jake Ellis.

Later on in the series, things heat up between her and Elora Murger — the couple appear to still be in a lesbian relationship together since filming wrapped up late last year.

“I try and avoid (the spotlight) ... I haven’t been going to events of thing like that,” Marx told Confidential.

“I think it could be one of the reasons I haven’t met anyone.”

Fans hit back calling the program an “anticlimax” compared to Channel 9’s Married At First Sight but the bitter feuds are not limited to controversial contestant Keira Maguire.

Leah Costa hit out at newcomer Ali Oetjen in TV Week yesterday, claiming she had “killed the group dynamic”, which is an unexpected drama played off set.

“Ali just wanted to find a husband. She had no interest in getting to know the girls or being friendly,” she told the publication.

“She didn’t even want to chat to the girls.”

In the same interview, Costa told the magazine that she was “definitely not going to play it up like I did on The Bachelor”.

The contestants are not as fresh as the faces on Married At First Sight, who all entered the reality TV show with no knowledge of what it’s like being in the firing line.

Villain Davina Rankin, who was caught in the show’s “cheating scandal” with groom Dean Wells, has continually explained her social anxiety following the filming on the program.

And to this day, Sarah Roza’s “revenge body” and Ashley Irvine’s new romance with Justin Fischer, whose partners Carly Bowyer and Troy Delmege are now in a relationship, are still leading entertainment news and backyard barbecue conversations.

The amateur Married At First Sight reality TV stars posing on media walls and posting backlash on Instagram is one thing Bachelor In Paradise contestants now understand as a big no-no.

Fans of Bachelor In Paradise would be pretty naive to think the same drama that played out on each contestants’ love series, would be replicated on the Fijian island.

The reality is, there is no reality on The Bachelor In Paradise.

The learning curve for each contestant hit them square in the face ages ago. Channel 10 is now left to turn-up the show’s “twists”, which let’s be honest, aren’t twists at all.
