Top of the Lake: China Doll star Nicole Kidman says she can be funny

Versatility has been a key to her success, now Nicole Kidman is ready to try her hand at an unexpected role.
The Oscar winner has opened up revealing she never gets offered funny roles, but is definitely up to it.
“They always say I’m not funny,” the 50-year-old said at the Summer Television Critics Association Press Tour, where she was promoting her latest project Top of the Lake: China Doll.
The Big Little Lies star said she is now eager to try any role ... and isn’t worried about failure.
“I’m willing to fall on my face,” Kidman said.
She also added that she’s learning about comedy from her nine-year-old daughter Sunday Rose, to husband Keith Urban, joking that she “sure has Lucille Ball in her”.
Fresh off the success of Big Little Lies, Kidman will return to the small screen next month in the Top of the Lake sequel.
Speaking in LA, Kidman spoke about her passion to empower and support her fellow females in the industry.
The statements came as her close friend, Aussie Naomi Watts posted on Instagram supporting Kidman.
“This woman is everything to me,” Watts told her 800,000 followers.
At Sundance yesterday Kidman was joined by her co-stars from the new Top of the Lake. Sitting alongside the Aussie was Elisabeth Moss who returns as the central character Detective Robin Griffin, Aussie Alice Englert who play’s Moss’ daughter Mary and Game of Thrones star Gwendoline Christie as a police officer.
The show will see Sydney-born Englert, the daughter of the show’s creator Jane Campion, in her first big role since Beautiful Creatures and Ginger and Rosa in 2013.
She said working in the strong female cast reignited her passion for her craft.
“I love Elisabeth Moss and I love Nicole Kidman and I love Gwendoline. They are all amazing people and amazing actors,” Englert said.
“Nicole, Lizzie and Gwedoline make me want to be an actor
“They are committed and they are strong and they are vulnerable.”
Kidman, who will fly into Sydney this week for the Aussie premier of Top of the Lake: China Girl at the Opera House on Tuesday, said she is blown away by her success in 2017.
