Hollywood actor Russell Crowe helped save a Kookaburra in need of life-saving surgery, it’s been revealed.
The Gladiator star quietly donated an undisclosed sum of money to conservationist organisation Wildlife Warriors, which rescued the native bird after it swallowed a fishing hook.
Australia Zoo owner Terri Irwin said the bird needed an emergency endoscopy and Crowe helped them purchase the necessary equipment.
“Thank you @russellcrowe for donating the funds to purchase this life-saving endoscope. Archie really appreciated it!,” Irwin tweeted.
The official Twitter account for Wildlife Warriors wrote, “Archie the kookaburra had swallowed a fishing hook when he arrived at the #AustraliaZoo Wildlife Hospital. An endoscope was used to locate the hook, following which it was safely removed using a protective sleeve. Thankfully, Archie recovered and he has returned back to the wild.”

Crowe has a close bond with the Irwin family and last year he gifted Terri’s daughter Bindi Irwin a fig tree as a wedding present after she married Chandler Powell.
Irwin first launched the charity Wildlife Warriors in Queensland in 2002 with her late husband and Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin.
The organisation is dedicated to protecting wildlife and also has the support of their children Bindi and Robert.
Earlier this month, new mum Bindi and Robert paid tribute to their parents in a heartwarming Instagram post on what would have been their 29th wedding anniversary.
“Happy Anniversary to my sweetheart parents. Your love is the stuff of miracles,” she wrote.
Robert added: “Happy anniversary, Mum and Dad. (This is my favourite photo ever).”
Steve Irwin died in 2006 after being stabbed in the chest by a stingray barb.
