Bindi Irwin welcomes newborn daughter on her first wedding anniversary

Bindi Irwin has welcomed her first child on a very special anniversary, while paying tribute to dad Steve in her little girl’s name.

Bindi Irwin has welcomed her first “beautiful” child, including a sweet shout out to her dad Steve in her newborn girl’s name.

The 22-year-old and husband Chandler Powell announced the birth of their baby daughter, Grace Warrior Irwin Powell, on Instagram on Friday night.

Sharing a sweet snap of the trio cuddled up together, Bindi wrote on Instagram that Grace had arrived on Thursday afternoon, the day of their first wedding anniversary.

“Happy first wedding anniversary to my sweetheart husband and day of birth to our beautiful daughter … our graceful warrior is the most beautiful light,” Bindi wrote.

“There are no words to describe the infinite amount of love in our hearts for our sweet baby girl. She chose the perfect day to be born and we feel tremendously blessed … celebrating the two loves of my life.”

Grace was born at 5.52pm on Thursday, March 25, weighing a healthy 3.37kg (7lb 7oz).

Bindi went on to explain the meaning behind her daughter’s four-part name, which includes tributes to both her and Chandler’s families, including her late Crocodile Hunter dad.

“Grace is named after my great-grandmother, and relatives in Chandler’s family dating back to the 1700s,” she wrote.

“Her middle names, Warrior Irwin, are a tribute to my dad and his legacy as the most incredible Wildlife Warrior.

“Her last name is Powell and she already has such a kind soul just like her dad.”

New dad Powell, 24, also posted a loving message to his baby girl on social media, calling her birth “the best moment” of his life.

“After waiting for you to arrive for the last 9 months, finally meeting you has been the best moment of my life,” Chandler wrote.

“You have a big life ahead of you and no matter what, you will be surrounded by a whole lot of love. Thank you for gracing your beautiful mother and me on our wedding anniversary, so excited to have you home.”

Grace’s birth comes almost 15 year’s after Steve’s death, when a stingray barb to the heart claimed his life in 2006 while filming a new documentary on the Great Barrier Reef.
