Sally Fitzgibbons and Trent Merrin steal moments together even if it’s online

IT ISN’T all A-lister functions, photo shoots and special boxes at sporting events when you are one of Australia’s power sporting couples.

For surfer Sally Fitzgibbons life off the water recently has all been about racing from airport to airport and finding good Wi-Fi connection in small cafes in France to support fiancee Trent Merrin.

“Wi-Fi is my newest friend,” said Fitzgibbons who has been desperate to see every second of Merrin’s recent exploits on the field.

“For the Kangaroos game we finally found good Wi-Fi in this little cafe near Bordeaux and then had everyone looking at us as we yelled and cheered in front of the computer but I couldn’t miss the game.”

Fitzgibbons said the pair have been playing “tag-team” for the last few months but finally get a short break together this week.

“He arrived home at around midnight and I came home in the morning but at least we are together,” she said.

While Fitzgibbons works overtime on four big business ventures — the women’s surfing gala, Train with Sally App, international beach festival and Sydney International Women’s pro surfing event, Merrin will be equally busy with the Kangaroos squad.

Sally Fitzgibbons is busy with four ventures at the moment including the Celebration of Australian Women in Surf Gala Dinner in Sydney on October 28.

Fitzgibbons hosted the Celebration of Australian Women in Surf Gala Dinner in Sydney last Friday to honour Australia’s eight female world champions and the legacy of top female surfers in this country.

This week she will surf in the Sydney International Pro at Cronulla, the centrepiece of the International Beach Festival, from November 3 — a women’s only world qualifying event.
