Reality real estate star Jason Oppenheim can’t praise Sydney enough for its “day time vibes”, but said The Emerald City’s night-life leaves much to be desired.
The American brokerage boss, whose offices form the basis of Netflix hits Selling Sunset and Selling the OC, is spending the festive season at the Park Hyatt, with his twin brother Brett, and girlfriend Marie-Lou Nurk.
“I don’t know if you’ll see an O Group in Sydney, although I don’t think there’s a city in the world that reminds me more of Los Angeles,” the millionaire broker told Confidential.
“The people, infrastructure and style is like a mix between San Francisco and LA. Except, it’s a lot cleaner and safer, fewer homeless, and crime. No guns.”
“Australia’s a bit of a nanny state in terms of all the rules, but I’ll take the rules for the cleanliness and safety.
“It’s just not as fun as LA in terms of night-life. We have a very high level of sophistication, if you want to go to lounges and beautiful restaurants.”
After two weeks, Oppenheim, 45, added that the Selling Sunset crew just tried “just about every good restaurant in town,” listing Totti’s, Mimi’s, Icebergs, and brunch spots in Double Bay.
“We’ve been going to bed at 11pm, and getting up at 7am, experiencing great day time,” Oppenheim said.
The Island beach club is the one Sydney party he lauded, saying that was “actually really fun”.
The trio haven’t bothered with nightclubs and late-night events, spending time at their friends’ homes instead: “All of our Aussie friends told us, you don’t come here to go out at night,” Oppenheim said.
