DESPITE the immense pain and grief, radio host Em Rusciano has revealed that her recent miscarriage has given her a strength she didn’t know she had.

After taking two weeks off her 2DAYFM breakfast show to mourn the loss of her unborn son Ray, Rusciano returned to the airwaves with a purpose for helping other women.

And in doing so she’s helping to heal herself.

“I’m made of iron now,” she said.

“Because nothing is going to match that pain. You don’t worry about little things, like ratings.”

Teaming up with the Australian Cervical Cancer Foundation, the comedian took a busload of listeners to clinics around Sydney to get pap tests in a bid to break the stigma attached to gynaecological health.

“When I was off work I was so overwhelmed with love from women. I knew I wanted to come back and focus on the health of other people rather than how much pain I’m in,” she said.

“I was able to come back to work the first week of the miscarriage and focus on this, rather than all the other sh**.

“Selfishly it’s been really cathartic for me and really healing for me.”

The mum to two girls opened up about the devastating loss of her unborn child at 13 weeks in an honest post on Facebook last month.

“I was hesitant to do it,” she said.

“I didn’t want it to look like I was trying to get sympathy or milking it.

“I didn’t know if I was going to be off work for a month or if I would ever go back.

“But I just thought, what do I normally do? And normally I’m honest.”

Rusciano’s social media was flooded with messages of support and now the still grief-stricken Rusciano said she’s glad she’s spoken out.

“It’s helped some people. Otherwise there is no point to what I do. I’m just talking into a stick.”
