THERE’S good reason Love Island contestant Erin Barnett might be familiar to reality TV viewers.
The Melbourne nursing student previously appeared on Channel 7 dating show, Beauty and the Geek, where beautiful women were paired with nerdy guys to see if looks are only skin deep.
“I was on Beauty and the Geek in 2013 and the show made me look quite dumb,” Barnett told Confidential.
“I kind of was I guess. I didn’t really care about education so then I did nursing to prove people wrong and I was actually really good at it.”
Barnett dropped out of school in Year 10 but, thanks to Beauty and the Geek, found the determination to prove she’s not just a pretty face.

She is in her final year of a nursing degree and works as a receptionist in an MRI department while she’s studying.
“Beauty and the Geek was scripted and this is more Big Brother,” she said. “This is more reality, you don’t have someone telling you what to do. I am not street smart. If I got robbed I’d tell them to take everything. To do with nursing and your body, I can help you but with computers and stuff, no, help yourself. I also want to do para medicine because I’d like to be first on scene, blood and gore, quick thinking. That is another year of study though so I don’t know.”
Barnett was one of 11 contestants to enter a Majorca villa as Channel 9 premiered the first season of Love Island Australia on Sunday night.
Contestants will spend up to six weeks vying for each other’s attention on the dating show that is based of a risque British format.
“I need help to try and find someone that I can put up with and can put up with me. I’ve given up on love so I need professional help,” Barnett said.
Barnett, 22, has changed a lot since Beauty and the Geek, both mentally and physically.
She describes herself as a “sexy bogan” and has had a “boob job”, going from a B-cup to a proud double D. She’s also had her lips done and would like to have a nose job.
“I actually bought my first bra to come here,” she said.
“I don’t own bras. I don’t like wearing them because I like to see when girls nipples go hard in their tops, I think it looks sexy.”
As for the type of guy she’s looking for, Barnett wants someone who makes her laugh.
“They don’t have to have a six pack but they need to be fit,” she said. “Being funny is a big thing for me. Obviously from first sight you have to be good looking or I probably won’t talk to you.”
