IT IS Married At First Sight on steroids.
Channel Nine is banking on 10 genetically blessed Aussies to push television boundaries when they debut their risque reality series Love Island.
Hosted by Sophie Monk, the series is based on the hugely successful UK format which houses a bunch of loveless hopefuls in a luxury villa in Majorca for up to six weeks.
Think Big Brother crossed with a single swingers party.
Rugby player Charlie Taylor, 22, is putting his sporting career on hold to work out what he wants to do with his life.
“I am not going on the show just to sleep with someone,” Taylor told The Sunday Telegraph. “I am going on the show to have a ball and hopefully ... potentially, find love.”
Former Beauty and the Geek contestant Erin Barnett will also be looking for love on the
“I need help to try and find someone that I can put up with and can put up with me,” Barnett said.
“I’ve given up on love so I need professional help.”
MEET THE HOUSEMATES
Natasha, 24, Perth — Beauty salon owner
“I’ve had my boobs done, that’s all. I’ve dated many different guys. I am independent. I can buy my own things. I’ve got my own business and my own property. I’ve got my own money to back me so I don’t need anyone looking after me.”
Tayla, 21, Perth — Beauty queen
“I would by lying if I said I hadn’t sent (naked) pics to my (ex) boyfriend but they wouldn’t come out anywhere. I’ve never sent anything to a random guy.”
Erin, 22, Melbourne — Nursing student
“I love sex, who doesn’t? I will have sex anywhere if I am horny enough. But I will try not to because it is on TV and I don’t want to be a porn star. If you see me whispering under the blanket, I’m just having a chat to my fanny.”
Cassidy, 23, Melbourne — Bartender
“I could come across as the villain. You never know how Australia will react. I am honest, that is where people love to hate me because I speak my mind so I can be very confronting I guess. I don’t like girls that are unnecessarily bitchy or nasty. I am a feminist so I like building women up, not tearing them down.”
Millie, 24, Sydney — Doggy daycare worker
“I was a complete dork growing up. I hung out with the popular girls for maybe two weeks and they were so mean. I was never really popular and when I tried it was terrible. I didn’t like the energy of the popular group.”
Charlie, 22, Sydney — Rugby player
“I am not going on the show just to sleep with someone. I am going on the show to have a ball and hopefully ... potentially, find love. I don’t like girls with body hair, that is a turn off for me. And also bad breath, bad teeth, body odour, all that stuff. Hygiene is the number one thing for me.”
Eden, 25, Sydney — Prison officer
“I did topless waiting and hooked up with a few girls there. The bride to be on one boat, I did sleep with her. She said she wanted one last hurrah and I gave it to her. I reckon plastic is fantastic. You don’t want to go overboard but I don’t mind the fake boobs, the fake lips, a woman who takes pride in herself. A man who says he hates fake boobs is lying.”
Justin, 27, Melbourne — Model
I have a powerful aura. I walk into a room, I’m 6’3 and look the way I look, I just take a lot of pride in myself and I am not afraid to express being a really charming beautiful guy so I do find that can be intimidating for most women because they might not know how to take it.”
Grant, 22, Canberra — Electrician
“I have had plenty of flings with girls. I just haven’t had the spark. That is what I look for, as much as the physical and emotional attraction. I just need that little bit more before I can say I will commit to someone. On this show I will possibly meet a partner for life. I’ve got my own business and I will be 23 soon, slowly I am getting older and older and I want to slow down eventually. I want to own a house, I want to be established and have kids before I am 30 so there are some big goals mate but I think they are achievable.”
Josh, 25, Sydney — Sports administrator
“If I am hooking up along the way, I am not going to be upset but I am looking for the one. If I find a girl that I really like first up, that is what I want to do. If I don’t, you’ve got to try before you buy. I have never sent a d**k pic with my face in it so you can’t tell it is me. I am single and I’ve been dating for a while now so a few things could come out of the woodwork.”
* Love Island will have its season premiere on Nine’s Go and Now channels next Sunday at 8.30pm.
