Former Home And Away hunk Todd Lasance will lead the charge on the Australian spin off of hit US crime drama, NCIS.
NCIS: Sydney will see Lasance play Sergeant Jim ‘JD’ Dempsey alongside an ensemble cast of relative newcomers.
Production is under way around Sydney with scenes shot at iconic locations like Bondi Beach.
Olivia Swann will play NCIS Special Agent Michelle Mackey while NIDA graduate Tuuli Narkle is AFP Liaison Officer Constable Evie Cooper and Mavournee Hazel has been cast as AFP Forensic Scientist Bluebird ‘Blue’ Gleeson.
“We are thrilled to be expanding the NCIS franchise, one of our most powerful and iconic television IPs, across borders and into Australia,” CBS Studios head of international co-productions Lindsay Martin said.
“It is a joy to work with this talented NCIS: Sydney creative team, actors, and crew for our inaugural international original, and to be able to tell our exciting NCIS stories with a uniquely Australian sensibility.”
NCIS: Sydney is being produced by CBS Studios and Paramount Australia by Endemol Shine Australia, and was announced in February last year for Channel 10 and streaming service, Paramount+.
It is the first international version of the hugely successful franchise that includes NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles (which aired its final season this year), NCIS: Hawaii and NCIS: New Orleans.
“The brilliant and eclectic team of US NCIS Agents and the Australian Federal Police (AFP) are grafted into a multinational task force, to keep naval crimes in check, in the most contested patch of ocean on the planet,” the press blurb on the show reads.
British actor Sean Sagar will play NCIS Special Agent DeShawn Jackson while veteran Australian actor William McInnes is AFP Forensic Pathologist Dr Roy Penrose.
“At the heart of NCIS are charismatic and engaging characters that audiences fall in love with,” Endemol’s Sara Richardson said.
“We have found just that with our incredible cast and the tight team they have formed. This first international iteration has all the DNA of the beloved franchise, but with a quintessentially Australian flavour.”
The Sydney spin-off will be broadcast globally.
“We are thrilled,” Ten boss Beverley McGarvey said when the show was announced.
“It is such a privilege to be able to continue the legacy of such a wonderful show and incorporate the superior NCIS storytelling while introducing new Australian characters and locations.
“We can’t wait to get production under way.”
