Ksubi founder Dan Single’s plea for cash to fund Paris hotel fall recovery backfires

FASHION designer Dan Single, pictured with wife Bambi Northwood-Blyth, asked strangers $250,000 to fund his recovery from a Paris balcony fall, but the idea backfired spectacularly.

KSUBI fashion designer Dan Single asked strangers to give him $250,000 to fund his recovery from a 35m balcony fall, despite his well-publicised lavish lifestyle.

Single is being mercilessly trolled on the GoFundMe page, which he deleted late today after asking for support to fund medical expenses and cover his inability to work after the Paris accident.

“Help fund the hospital bill, rehab bill, early flights home, being unable to make bread and work over the next months and all the incidentals the family is covering at the moment,” Single wrote on the page titled “sh*t got real”.

The page was deleted today following calls to his publicist by Confidential, with Single having raised just $475.

Single and his model wife Bambi Northwood-Blythe are famous for their jetsetting lifestyle, led around the world by her jobs with the likes of Thierry Mugler, Chanel and Balenciaga.

They live between homes in Sydney and California. Together the pair run a wine label and a PJ range.

Single founded cult label Ksubi in 1999, which folded with $9 million owing to creditors in 2009.

In 2013, he was banned from directing or managing companies for three years and hit with a $3 million fine for trading while insolvent.

His post on the fundraising site is categorised under “Emergencies” — the same category where people have been gathering donations for victims of natural disasters and to escape domestic violence.

Respondents were not kind to Single, with many donating the minimum of $5 simply to write a message saying his fundraising was a disgrace.

“Who the hell do you think you are? You’re asking for a quarter of a million dollars when it was your fault that you jumped off that balcony! In 2009 you had $21 million to your name so where has all that money gone?,” wrote Alana French.

“How come you can fund partying, drinking and overseas trips but not your own recovery? I’ll give you $5 with the sole intent of telling you what an idiot... you are,” wrote an anonymous donor.

“There are people truly deserving of financial assistance and your downfall appears to have been brought about as a result of your own well-documented history of hedonistic behaviour. Take this down before too many people see it and stop believing your own PR,” added Louise Angus.

A call to Single’s publicist to clarify the page belonged to him went unreturned.
