Former Voice and X-Factor stars Les Femmes to sing national anthem at The Everest

A girl group formed from The Voice and X-Factor stars are suiting up to perform the national anthem on Sydney’s biggest race day. Here’s why they get a dress-code pass.

All-star girl group Les Femmes didn’t miss the race day fashion memo, suiting up is just part of their schtick.

The Voice and theatre singer Emma Mylott (Les Misérables, We Will Rock You) fronts the class cover act, who only perform male songs, with masculine outfits to match.

Mylott teamed up with powerhouse performers like Rebecca Selley (Lion King, Beautiful, Burn The Floor, The Voice 2019), Jacinta Gulisano (X-Factor 2016, The Voice 2018), to have a bit of fun, and to play with gender stereotypes.

“We came up with the idea to have three women in suits doing male songs,” Mylott said.

“Ever since I was 18 and gigging, I’ve always wanted to be in a suit just like a boy. They’ve got it so easy. Compared to performing in tight dresses and heels.”

Dripping in custom fitted Sass & Bide attire, the girls of Les Femmes will be taking the stage at the Everest Carnival Fashion Lunch this week, and sing the national anthem on Sydney’s biggest race day, the Everest Day at Royal Randwick.

The whole group includes five of Mylott’s best singer friends, also including Kirrah Amosa, Kyla Bartholomeusz, and Elishia Stephanie, who take turns at the mic.

“Each medley in the show has a theme, but we don’t stick to eras,” Mylott said. “I’ve tried to keep everyone on their toes with what songs are coming next.”

The women mash up the best of every decade and genre, from Bruno Mars and Justin Timberlake, to AC/DC, Frank Sinatra, Michael Jackson, and Usher.
