A new superyacht has just docked in Sydney Harbour, and you don’t need to be a billionaire to board it.
The Jackson is a $16 million super yacht that’s been purpose built to take punters around the harbour and shake up the boating industry.
The boat, among the biggest in the harbour, is made by Sealink and took six years to be built.
It finally arrived in the harbour earlier in the year, after being delayed by Covid.
While it has all the five-star convenience of a super yacht (it comes complete with a rooftop bar and pizza oven) it’s also been specifically designed to host events. Meaning, heels are allowed on-board.
The Jackson has hosted glamorous weddings and events, including one for luxury designer Chanel.
Come Spring, the boat will open itself up to become a consumer bar and restaurant, meaning ordinary Sydneysiders will get to experience the luxe yacht life.
“The Jackson was designed for Sydney with the purpose of making the luxury superyacht experience attainable to the everyday public and the corporate market,” said Nick Lester, General Manager of The Jackson.
The boat’s menu is designed by Michelin-star chef Tom Kime.
Kime has worked at London’s prestigious Italian restaurant, The River Cafe which counts Paul McCartney, Victoria Beckham and Michael Caine as regulars. He also cooked for celebrity chef Jamie Oliver’s Wedding and worked with Rick Stein.
“The inspiration behind the menu is that Sydney is an international city, it’s a fantastic harbour, so we wanted a focus on great food,” he said.
Adding that while the aim of the boat is to offer affordable luxury, the service and food is six stars.
“The clientele the Jackson is attracting is the high end domestic market, not just tourists. They work in the city, they go skiing in Vale, they can go to Italy next year. So it’s about attention to detail with styling, the level of service. Last Saturday these people went to Felix or Shell House, so they know food.”
During Vivid, the boat will also open itself to consumers for a six-course degustation dinner.
The boat can be hired out from anywhere between $25,000 to $100,000, depending on the season and has the capacity to fit 700 people.
