Drag Superstar talks cancel culture

Three Sydney Queens will vie for the title of Down Under’s Next Drag Superstar.

A spectacular showdown will see Vybe, Nikita Iman and Karna Ford compete against seven other new drag performers as the season four cast of Drag Race Down Under has been announced.

Karna Ford isn’t the only dancing diva but said she can’t wait to give the audience what they’ve been craving.

“I’m excited for everyone to see the cast as a whole, the audience has been craving something and this is the cast to satisfy all their needs,” the Sydney performer told Confidential.

“I thought I would be the only dancing diva but there are three of us, I would say it’s my big personality that differentiates me from the others.”

The 10 queens from Australia and New Zealand will compete for a cash prize with new host Michelle Visage replacing iconic drag star RuPaul.

Sydney-based Samoan beauty Nikita Iman took a cultural approach to stand out.

“My drag is very Polynesian beauty and is influenced by my culture. Whenever we got a category I instantly went for culture, just that’s where my mind goes when I think of drag,” Iman told Confidential.

“There hasn’t been a queen that’s been able to push culture to a certain level where it’s really open, it was amazing to get feedback and criticism by judges on how much they appreciate me bringing culture when it was something I wasn’t thinking about bringing.”

Vybe, born and bred in the Harbour City, meanwhile is a traditionalist in the drag world but isn’t afraid to have fun.

“I feel a lot of support from the community and I want to make Sydney proud. I enjoy the traditional drag I do and I can’t wait to see it on the screen,” Vybe said.

Drag Race Down Under season four will premiere on Stan on November 1.
