ON the surface Joel Edgerton and Chris Hemsworth tick a lot of the same boxes.
They’re both suave, stylish, good-looking Aussies with bucketloads of talent who are taking Hollywood by storm.
But Australia’s two leading male actors are heading down different paths to stardom.
Whereas Hemsworth is the wholesome family man who is becoming a bona fide blockbuster drawcard, Edgerton is developing a personal that is, well, a little more edgy.
The 43-year-old is garnering as much attention for his red carpet style as his acting chops, stepping out at the premiere of his latest film, Gringo, looking like a GQ cover star in a fashion-forward corduroy suit and close-cut beard.
While Hemsworth is become better known as a knockabout bloke devoted to his wife and kids, Edgerton’s bachelor status and links to Hollywood’s leading ladies has turned him into one of the world’s most talked-about male stars.
In recent weeks Edgerton has been romantically linked to his Red Sparrow co-star Jennifer Lawrence, who is currently joining him on the film’s global press tour.
Edgerton might be pursuing the cooler, more critically favoured projects favoured by Oscar judges, but Hemsworth is winning the money race. Last year he made Forbes’ top-ten list of highest-grossing actors with movies such as Thor: Ragnarok raking in $US845 million.

Hemsworth, 34, is set to begin work on Bad Times At The El Royale alongside Jeff Bridges and 50 Shades Of Grey star Dakota Johnson. The father of four flew into Canada this week to begin filming the thriller, looking dapper in a grey fedora and brown blazer as he walked through Vancouver International Airport.
