The two-time Oscar winner was nominated for a prestigious Tony Award in New York but instead of glamming it up with Broadway’s A-listers she instead chose to spend her time kicking around Sydney in a super-stylish Burberry overcoat to shield her from the rain.
And maybe she knew something we didn’t as she lost out on the top actor gong at the Tonys for her performance in The Present.
She wasn’t the only Aussie to miss out, with Tim Minchin’s work on Groundhog Day being beaten to the best original score award.
Bette Midler stole the show in the Big Apple, refusing to leave the stage as the orchestra tried to play her off during her speech after she won best lead actor in a musical.
It has been a busy few days for Blanchett, who was became a Companion of the Order of Australia in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.
