Just one day after Karl Stefanovic tied the knot, his ex-wife has launched a bitter attack on the TV host calling him “fake” and mocking his lavish Mexican wedding.
Thorburn candidly told New Idea magazine she thought the Today host was promoting a “fake” impression of his life.
“I’ve done a lot of reading about narcissism,” Thorburn told the glossy mag.
“Everything he says is about this fake person who lives in this fake castle, it’s not real.
“After we separated he … said [to me], ‘It is very, very hard to be the best journalist in Australia, quite possibly the world’.”
She didn’t hold back when commenting on his over-the-top Mexico wedding which was attended by a string of celebrities including former foreign minister Julie Bishop and British fashionista Lousie Roe.
“He’s thrown three weddings for goodness sake. Who needs three weddings in a year, give us a break,” Cass told a reporter at Sydney’s airport.
“Three weddings and a funeral. We had a funeral and it was my dad’s.”
Thorburn also commented on Stefanovic’s stunt where he claimed to wear the same Burberry suit, an experiment in sexism in the media.
“Does the country really believe he wore the same suit every day for a year?” she said,
“Did anyone go and check every tape of every day?” she asked. “No. They just believed it because he said it. And one saying is that if I say it it’s true and that’s what he thinks.”
It is the third dig at her ex and his new wife in just the past week.
As the first photos of the wedding hit social media, Thorburn ported a cryptic messages.
Thorburn, the mother of the Today show host’s three children, posted an image of the feminist novel A Handmaid’s Tale, Margaret Atwood’s novel — now a wildly popular TV series — tells the incredibly dark story of Offred, who is struggling to survive within a fundamentalist regime that treats women as property of the state.
“A good book for my journey. An excellent tv series that is an emotional roller coaster for women. Well worth watching,” she wrote.
While attending an event early last week Thorburn took the opportunity for a swipe at women who place an importance on appearance and fashion — the industry in which her former husband’s new love is making her name.
