Casey Donovan is getting herself ready to start a family.
Having tipped the scales at her heaviest at 136 kgs, the 34-year-old is on a weight-loss mission to get herself in shape.
“I would like to start a family one day and just get my head and my heart and my body into the right frame of mind to be able to do that,” Donovan told The Daily Telegraph.
“It is a long game and it is not an easy fix. It is getting the vessel ready so that I can live a long and happy life and do that while understanding my body and health.
“At the end of the day, the weight is a bonus, it is getting in the right mindframe and healthframe to be able to achieve all of that.”
The Telegraph can reveal Donovan has signed on as an ambassador for Jenny Craig.
She was well on her way to her weight-loss goal before signing up to the program.
An upside of the pandemic was that it gave her time to focus on healthy eating and exercise without the rigorous schedule of touring. Donovan started Jenny Craig a month ago, weighing 114 kgs, and is already down just over 6 kgs.
She is currently treading the boards in the 9 to 5 stage musical and with her Bluesday on Tour solo shows.
She and partner Renee Sharples have spoken about starting a family, although are not in a rush.
“When I was sitting at the heavier scale of 136 kgs, it scared me. I didn’t know what I was doing and I didn’t know how to help myself,” Donovan said.
“I am at that point in my life now where I just want to be fit and healthy and make good decisions. When I became an ambassador, I wanted to be open and honest and to share an honest account of me doing this. Being accountable and talking through hurdles, it is about making smarter decisions and not stressing about it. It is as simple as putting veggies and salad with every meal that you have.”
On her health, Donovan said her weight meant she had been told “the underlying layer has always been pre-diabetic, fatty liver, all of the things”.
“Over the last few years I have lost a remarkable amount of weight and Jenny Craig is really coming in at that end point to just re-educate me and to put the health back into my healthy lifestyle,” she said.
“Health and wellbeing is the most important thing in everything we do. I wish I had this better understanding earlier as to how simple it really is.”
