Bachelor Matt Agnew parts ways with long hair for World’s Greatest Shave

Matt Agnew’s lockdown mop could soon be made into a literal one, as the former Bachelor shaves off his luscious locks for an important cause.

Bachelor hunk Matt Agnew hopes to raise more than $30,000 for cutting off his luscious locks.

The scientist has agreed to go short for a good cause after signing on as an ambassador for The Leukaemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave.

“It is too good an opportunity for me to miss the chance to be involved with,” he said, noting it is World Cancer Day today. “I think it is long enough that it can be turned into a wig, which is great, and if it isn’t long enough it can be used to mop up oil spills because hair is really good with that.”

Agnew’s hair has proved quite the talking point online as he grew his mane through successive Covid lockdowns.

“It has certainly had more interest than I was expecting and more commentary than I was expecting,” he said. “It has probably been more positive than negative.”

He suspects the interest came because it is “such a significant deviation” from the man Australia saw star on the 2019 season of dating show, The Bachelor.

“Obviously I had a very traditional look, very clean cut and clean shaven,” he said. “It is a stark contrast to that. Plus I think there is still probably a bit of weirdness, or interesting opinions with regards to men with long hair.”

Himself, Agnew has grown fond of his long hair.

“When you are growing it out there is kind of that period where it is not long enough to be long hair and not short enough to be short hair,” said Agnew, who will be releasing his first book later this year. “It is hard to style, you end up just wearing hats and beanies 24/7 but I really like it.”

Agnew meanwhile confirmed his single status after recently being romantically linked to comedian Gen Fricker.

“I’ve been single for a while and obviously very open to a relationship and I am always interested to pursue one but at the same time I am also making sure that I am focused on keeping myself happy and healthy,” he said.
