The Daily Telegraph’s own beloved veteran rugby league writer and commentator Phil ‘Buzz’ Rothfield has taken a starring role alongside some of the greats of sport here and abroad.
Buzz filmed a cameo in the new television commercial just outside of Goulburn as the likes of Mike Whitney, Luc Longley, Paul Harragon and Peter Daicos feature in the third instalment of car company Kia’s sport-themed ads.
“It’s nice to have my good friend Pat Rafter join in this time,” Barty said.
“The premise of the ad is I’ve purchased a renovator’s delight and I ask a few trusted tradies to help bring the house back to life.
“You’ll be surprised by some of the people who turn up to the building site, not to mention a big cameo from a tiler who specialises in clay.”
Said ‘tiler’ is none other than tennis legend Rafael Nadal, who filmed his bit from his tennis academy in Mallorca.
“I have always been happy when in Australia,” Nadal said.
“I have great memories and crowds and people have treated me in a very special way, which always made me happy, even in tough moments.
“I don’t know if I get the honour to be an honorary Australian but definitely I feel close to home when I am Down Under. Australians have a special way of living and we also do that in Mallorca and in Spain.”
Also in the ad for Kia’s Tasman ute are Erin Phillips, Geoff Toovey, Bryan Fletcher, Jason Gillespie and Ruben Wiki.
It will air for the first time during tonight’s State of Origin game.
“The thing I love about Australia is our humour and our ability to have a laugh at ourselves,” Rafter said.
“Ash (Barty) and I always have a laugh when we work together, we enjoy taking the mickey out of each other.”
