Australian actress Elizabeth Debicki to receive GQ Woman Of The Year

OFTEN referred to as the next Cate Blanchett, Aussie actress Elizabeth Debicki will be recognised for her biggest year to date —including a steady stream of roles — with a massive GQ Award.

STAR on the rise Elizabeth Debicki is about to wrap her biggest year to date, with the Aussie actor securing a steady stream of roles throughout 2018.

And this week her incredible trajectory will be recognised when she is awarded the GQ Women of the Year award at Wednesday night’s hotly-anticipated annual GQ Man of the Year Awards.

Since starring in Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby, Debicki has achieved monumental success, having starred in Simon Baker’s Breath, Jennifer Fox’s The Tale and lending her voice to Mopsy in Peter Rabbit.

Two other projects are set to hit screens this month: Vita And Virginia and the much-anticipated Steve McQueen movie Widows, which has seen her tipped for an Oscar nomination.

Debicki, often referred to as the next Cate Blanchett, said despite her soaring fame and acclaimed performances, she doesn’t deal well with praise.

“You’d be lying if you said you didn’t want people to love you, affirm you, respect you, whatever you do,” the 28-year-old told GQ Magazine.

“Whether you’re an actress or a mother, a teacher, a professor — people want to be held, supported and affirmed. That’s the human condition.

“But at the end of the day, when you’re trying to make a film with integrity, the opinions that matter are the ones on the day of shooting.

“If you finish the scene, they check the gate, and your director says, ‘That was good work. I’ll see you tomorrow’. That’s all you really need. What we do as actors is try to create mirrors for people.”

GQ editor Mike Christensen said the GQ Woman of the Year award, which has previously been given to Iggy Azalea, Ruby Rose and Rachael Taylor, is a testament to Debicki’s success.

“Elizabeth Debicki has without a doubt had the year of her career to date,” Christensen said.
