Kyle and Jackie O’s fiery exit from their radio show this week marked a dramatic new development in the pair’s relationship with their network.
Kyle Sandilands’ past blow-ups have occasionally seen him abandon the pair’s top-rated show mid-episode – but usually, Jackie O’s stuck around to smooth things over with listeners. This time, the cool-headed radio veteran followed her co-host off-air, both of them fuming over what they considered to be heavy-handed censorship of their show.
It comes amid a drama-filled year for the radio titans, starting with a furious walkout from Kyle back in February and culminating in a recent headline-making on-air spray against their own radio station in which Kyle insisted he was “sick and tired” of working at KIIS FM.
With a fiance and a new baby at home, Sandilands didn’t seem too fussed about his job as he bailed on Friday, telling his co-host: “if I’m not back Monday... it didn’t work out well for me.”

‘Idiot’: Kyle storms out
A furious Kyle stormed out of The Kyle and Jackie O Show minutes into a February episode, labelling his co-host an “idiot” and ordering her to “do the show by yourself”.
Sandilands went on an extraordinary 12-minute rant after he, Jackie O and newsreader Brooklyn Ross opened today’s show by discussing the news that former NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian allegedly once called Prime Minister Scott Morrison a “horrible, horrible person” in a text message.
“You’re so angry,” sighed Jackie O, as the trio continued discussing whether or not the story was newsworthy – a topic that continued to infuriate Sandilands.
“You just show how dumb you all are, you idiots. You’re being followed around by c**kheads,” he told his colleagues.
“I’m going home, F**K you. Do the show by yourself, what a f**king show it’ll be,” said Sandilands, storming out of the studio.
Controversial on-air rants
Sandilands’ mouth has landed him in hot water several times this year – in May, he launched into a tirade against transgender women who compete in women’s sports.
“If you’re born a female, you’re allowed to swim against other females. If you’re a 6ft man with (audio beeped) in women’s bathers, that’s not going to cut it.”
When told by a producer that he was being “really offensive to trans women,” Kyle continued on his rampage. “It’s offensive to women who wants to compete against other women, that a bloke is allowed to beat them.”
And in August, Sandilands was rebuffed by an LGBTQ health body for his “hurtful” comments about the Monkeypox virus.
He described the virus as “the big gay disease floating around” and joked that he wouldn’t let producer Brooklyn Ross near his new son Otto.
“Comments such as this are not just hurtful, they are also deeply unhelpful,” an Australian Federation of AIDS Organisations spokesman told the Sydney Morning Herald.
“Sick and tired of working here”
Sandilands went on an extraordinary rant about his own network in late September, fuming over the lack of publicity afforded to The Kyle and Jackie O Show’s latest ratings win.
“I am sick and tired of working here,” he announced.
“Everyone is a loser, except for everyone on this show. Everyone else outside of this show is a massive loser. I am not joking.”
“They have got no idea. This whole station couldn’t pull a root in a brothel with a wheelbarrow full of money and a grin. They wouldn’t know, they wouldn’t get laid. They are too dumb. Imbeciles.
“I am sick and tired of this joint hiring idiots to run things and then it takes them a year to find out that guy is a d**khead and he should be fired. Get rid of the flops. I should be running this whole joint.”
Kyle and Jackie O both bail
This week saw an unfortunate new milestone for the show, with both co-hosts bailing mid-episode after fuming that the show’s in-house censor had cut their interview with broadcaster Alan Jones.
Jackie said she was “confused” as to why the earlier audio been deemed unable to be broadcast, calling it a “miscommunication”.
Kyle then said he’d spoken to his own personal lawyer during their sudden break, who advised him to “pull yourself off the air until everyone’s singing from the same hymn book.”
He claimed it was “too dangerous” for him to continue broadcasting under these circumstances.
He told his co-host that he would be back for Monday’s show – “and if I’m not back Monday, it didn’t work out well for me.”
Despite this, ARN, the company that owns Kyle and Jackie O’s network KIIS FM, insisted both hosts would be back on Monday when contacted by news.com.au.
“Kyle was upset about a segment that was dumped this morning and decided to give himself and the team an early mark. The guys are back Monday from 6am,” an ARN spokesperson told us.
