Kyle and Jackie O dramatically exit mid-show

Kyle and Jackie O are fuming at their own show – and after consulting with a lawyer, they both suddenly quit mid-episode today.

Kyle and Jackie O walk off air

Radio hosts Kyle and Jackie O dramatically exited their show mid-episode this morning, both upset at having been dumped from the air by their in-studio censor during an earlier interview with fellow radio stalwart Alan Jones.

The pair had Jones on the phone for a fairly innocuous 15-minute conversation covering his favourite restaurants, cars and homes, when listeners suddenly heard a prerecorded alert informing them the audio had been “dumped”.

“This means someone said something inappropriate and is currently getting in trouble,” the message announced.

After a very lengthy songs and advertisment break, Kyle and Jackie O returned without Jones – and both were clearly unhappy.

“We were going into weird territory – comparing cars and homes – then the show got dumped,” Kyle explained of the circumstances that led to the on-air censorship.

Kyle explained that the show’s censor’s job was to bleep out swear words or anything that might land the show in legal trouble, and Jackie said they understood that they would get words or sentences bleeped for their own protection.

The “dump,” however, effectively ended their interview with Jones and forced them off the air.

“If it’s a beep, it’s fine, but if it’s a dump, it’s a different story altogether,” said Jackie.

“It wasn’t a big deal, as far as I’m concerned, but -” Kyle began, before he was once again dumped from air for the rest of his sentence.

Jackie said she was “confused” as to why the earlier audio been deemed unable to be broadcast, calling it a “miscommunication”.

Kyle then said he’d spoken to his own personal lawyer during their sudden break, who advised him to “pull yourself off the air until everyone’s singing from the same hymn book.”

He claimed it was “too dangerous” for him to continue broadcasting under these circumstances.

“How are we ever going to know? Communication is key in these situations,” said Jackie.

With that, Kyle announced that he was finishing for the week there and then.

The pair were once again heavily censored as they continued to vent about what they described as a lack of communication behind the scenes of their show.

Kyle said he’d remain off air “until we know what’s going on here. I can’t stand [censored]. And then I’m told [censored]. It’s a mess. I don’t want to let the rest of you down, but you know how it is. It’s like jumping out of a plane with no parachute, it’s not easy.”

He told his co-host that he would be back for Monday’s show – “and if I’m not back Monday, it didn’t work out well for me.”

“Oh no, that’s a shame,” said Jackie.

After another lengthy break, the pair were both absent from the airwaves, with a fill-in announcer jumping on instead.

“I know they said to expect the unexpected – didn’t expect to start two and a half hours early,” he said. “Hey, let’s push on.”

News.com.au has this morning contacted ARN, the company that owns Kyle and Jackie O’s network KIIS FM. A spokesperson told us: “Kyle was upset about a segment that was dumped this morning and decided to give himself and the team an early mark. The guys are back Monday from 6am.”

What Kyle and Jackie O said to Alan

Veteran broadcaster Jones joined the pair via phone for a less-than-relatable list of discussion topics including Kyle’s Bellevue Hill mansion, Alan’s expensive country estate, the pros and cons of their respective luxury cars and their favourite upmarket Sydney restaurants.

The conversation then turned to a new staff member on The Kyle and Jackie O Show, who Kyle claimed he had busted watching YouTube compilations of he and Alan’s most infamous meltdowns.

“How do they get hold of these things? Someone was in there secretly taping me,” said Alan, before reminiscing about one of his prior meltdowns.

“You do these advertisments... there was all this smoke in the room and I said, ‘What are we doing in here? I can hardly breathe.’ No-one took any notice of me, so-”

And with that, the show was dumped off-air, with the pre-recorded announcement playing before an extended song-and-ad break. Kyle and Jackie O didn’t return to the airwaves for more than 15 minutes, when they vented about the “dumping” and said their goodbyes.

It’s not the first time The Kyle and Jackie O Show has been dumped off-air – but the most recent headline-making occurrence happened when someone merely pressed the wrong button on the show’s control board.
