Kyle and Jackie O dumped off air following technical error on live morning show

Listeners of KIIS FM’s Kyle and Jackie O this morning experienced a moment of confusion as the hosts were momentarily cut from airing live.

Kyle Sandilands blows up during heated interview

KIIS FM listeners were left scratching their heads this morning after the oft-controversial Kyle and Jackie O were momentarily pulled from air amid puzzling circumstances.

While it certainly wouldn’t have been the first time fans have heard the audio declaring that the duo (read: Kyle) had been censored for inappropriate content, nor is it likely to be the last, this time there was a much simpler explanation.

Someone had merely pressed the wrong button.

As the show returned from a song break, a prerecorded alarm message stated: “The station you’ve been listening to has been dumped. This means someone has said something inappropriate, and is currently getting in trouble. The broadcast will return in seconds.”

Given the alarm went off outside of a talk break, Jackie “O” Henderson was left equally baffled.

“Umm, well that was a mistake actually,” she began.

“I don’t know why that went off. But now, we are no longer in … What the hell’s going on over there?,” she exclaimed as another random audio sting sounded.

“(We are no longer) in delay, just so you know, so we can’t be beeped for anything,” she continued.

“Nothing can be beeped, I don’t know what we have to do in this situation,” the 47-year-old added to co-host Sandilands, who simply responded: “What do you mean? We just continue like normal, who gives a sh*t.”

Issuing a warning to upcoming Australian Idol host Scott Tweedie, who was waiting in the wings to be interviewed as the chaotic moment unfolded, Jackie joked: “Hey Scott, behave yourself OK, that’s all I’m going to say.”

Jackie O was forced to explain that the ‘dump’ message was a case of someone accidentally pressing the wrong button.

Thankfully, the incident was ironed out quickly, unlike a similar moment in August during which listeners had to endure 7 seconds of confusion following technical malfunction.

The duo were interviewing comedian and actor Jim Jefferies about 9.30am when seven seconds of a single-note hold tone sounded.

When the pair finally returned to air, Jackie O revealed Kyle had sworn, explaining to listeners her co-host had told “harmonica boy [Jefferies] to ‘eff off’ and then suddenly the bleep button got stuck,” she said.

As producers attempted to ‘bleep’ the swear word, the button got stuck for seven seconds, which explained the prolonged tone.

Although the show resumed as normal, Jackie again revealed the pair had to continue to do the show live and without a delay.

“There’s no delay anymore, guys, so I’m very nervous with both Jim and Kyle, live,” she said.

Last week, Sandilands and fellow Idol judges Meghan Trainor, Amy Shark and Harry Connick Jr. were at the centre of backlash surrounding the show over the lack of diversity.

Sandilands was previously a judge on Australian Idol while it was still airing on Channel 10, but was sacked in 2009 after a stunt on his radio show that saw a teenage rape survivor grilled about her sexual history live on air.

The distressed teen began crying over the line of questioning and disclosed that she had been raped when she was 12, to which Sandilands replied: “Right … is that the only experience you’ve had?”

As recently as August, the new dad copped heat from an LGBTQ health body for his “hurtful” comments about Monkeypox, referring to the virus as “the big gay disease floating around”.
