Kyle Sandilands rushes off-air to attend birth of baby

Kyle Sandilands was forced to abandon the Kyle and Jackie O Show mid-episode today as he received some huge personal news.

Kyle Sandilands was forced to abandon this morning’s episode of The Kyle and Jackie O Show, after receiving news that his partner Tegan was about to give birth to their first child.

And later on in the show, Jackie O delivered listeners a happy update: All had gone well and Kyle and Tegan are now proud parents to a son, named Otto.

And listeners even heard from Kyle himself after the birth - where he gave a typically graphic account of his son’s first moments on earth.

“Otto’s born, Otto’s fabulous. I cut the cord, I didn’t realise it was like tough calamari and blood spurted out. I was the first person to touch him, he sh*t himself, poo was oozing out,” he said.

Some of Sandilands’ celeb friends also called in to the show to wish he and Tegan congratulations.

“I never thought I’d see this day while I was alive,” said TV personality Beau Ryan.

“Does the child look like me?” quipped veteran broadcaster John Laws.

Kyle’s mid-show hospital dash

Sandilands, who was broadcasting from his home studio, was about to introduce a news segment earlier this morning when he paused momentarily.

“I think I might have to leave the show … and go to the hospital,” he said.

“Oh, it’s time!” said his elated co-host.

“Calm down, we don’t want the kid coming too soon,” he said. “Guys, I’m so sorry. I feel very unprepared. I’ve got to run … I feel like I’m abandoning you, but I’m there for my child.”

Going...

Gone.

And with that, barely 30 seconds after making the announcement, Sandilands was off-air, leaving Jackie O to host the rest of the show solo.

Not that she minded – she was clearly thrilled for her longtime co-host, and even admitted that she’d been hoping the news would come mid-show.

“We’re so used to seeing everything happen in life … I wish there was a way that he could Facetime us so we could all watch – or do a live Facebook or a live Instagram,” she said.

“Oh, how exciting! I’m freaking out.”

Jackie O was thrilled the news came live on-air.

Jackie O promised to keep listeners abreast of any developments: “We have no idea how long this is going to take, but we’ll keep you updated.”

And a short time later came a very big update:

“If you’ve just tuned in, little Otto has been born. It’s so hectic - I feel like I can’t think straight!” said Jackie O, confessing that usual programming for the show had been thrown “out the window” as they scrambled to cover Sandilands’ personal news.

Baby Otto the first child for Sandilands, 51, and his 35-year-old fiancee Tegan Kynaston. The pair announced they were expecting back in February – the same month they had an extravagant gender reveal party on a yacht on Sydney Harbour, where they announced they were having a boy.

Kyle even revealed the name of his unborn child on air in March, announcing to the Kyle and Jackie O show’s listeners that they planned to call him Otto.

And in June came the news that Sandilands had forked out a whopping $13.8 million on a lavish new Sydney home for his new family.

The sprawling Bellevue Hill mansion features five bedrooms, six bathrooms, a two-car garage, a plunge pool, spacious wine cellar, and lift access to all four of its spacious levels.
