Angie Kent is happy to be a cautionary tale.
The reality star this week pleaded guilty to mid-range drink-driving after blowing 0.081 when she was pulled over by police in Pyrmont on October 3.
“Let me be the lesson,” the 31-year-old told The Daily Telegraph.
“If you think you can have two drinks and drive, think again, because it is totally not worth the lapse of judgment.
“I try to be inspired by my experiences, not defined by them.”
Magistrate Vivien Swain told Kent that her driving history afforded her no leniency, given she had previously been charged with drink-driving.
Ms Swain convicted Kent, disqualified her from driving for four months, fined her $1200 and put her on a 12-month interlock program. She has also undertaken a program for traffic offenders.
“I am so grateful that I didn’t hurt anybody and I will never have two drinks and drive again,” she said.
“Obviously it is out that it has happened to me before, and you would have thought I would have learnt seven years ago when I did it.
“I am heavier now, I thought I could have two drinks and drive, but no, let me be the lesson.
“Do not guess anything, make sure you know.”
Kent added: “You don’t know what a standard drink is if you are not out and someone is pouring it. If you are having two drinks at home thinking it is a standard drink, you are wrong. Don’t do it, it is not worth the risk.”
Usually based in Queensland, the former Gogglebox and I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here star has been living in Sydney for several months due to border closures.
She came to NSW to shoot the upcoming season of Dancing With The Stars.
On Thursday, a day after fronting court, Kent put on a brave face and did the rounds of media to promote her big-screen acting debut in the lead role of Nadine in horror flick The Possessed, alongside Simone Buchanan, Lincoln Lewis and Melissa Tkautz.
“It is so much harder than what it seems,” she said of acting, having studied filmmaking when she finished school.
“It was hardcore, I have such a respect for actors, they are very clever.”
Kent said she would like to do more acting, although will let viewers decide whether or not she is good at it.
“I personally loved doing it but I have to see what people think,” she said.
“I love anything to do with entertaining people, making people happy, making people laugh.
“I love it.”
