Four rookie newcomers will join seasoned Dancing With The Stars celebrities when the new season of the reality show premieres next year.
Production is underway on the latest ‘All Stars’ season that will again be hosted by Sonia Kruger and Daryl Somers on Channel 7.
Deni Hines,Sam McMillan,Kris Smith and Cameron Daddo will try their hand at dancing for the first time as wildcard entrants alongside 10 of the most memorable celebrities from previous seasons.
Among them are series winners TV host Grant Denyer (2006), actor Bridie Carter (2007) and former AFL players David Rodan (2014) and Anthony Koutoufides (2006).
“I decided to do this show because I love to dance and I’ve been dancing all my life,” Hines told The Sunday Telegraph. “Due to Covid, I wasn’t able to do any dancing at all and when this opportunity came up I thought, absolutely, l can dance. I just turned 51 and I wanted to show Australia that just because you’re 51 or 50, 49 you don’t have to stop being active. And how do I think I’ll go? If it’s about rhythm and co-ordination, I got it.”
Model dad Smith is doing it for his young daughters.
“My two young girls are absolutely obsessed with dancers and ballerinas and I thought if they could see me with real live professional dancers, I’d become a cool dad,” he said. “And also, if the last few months have taught me one thing, it’s to take every opportunity and enjoy it.”
Also competing are Ricki-Lee Coulter, who placed third in the 2014 season, The Morning Show host Kylie Gillies, also third in the 2009 season, and Courtney Act, who came second in 2019.
“My heart said ‘yes’ immediately. Then my body went, ‘Hmm. do you really think we can do this?” 2009 through to 2021 is a long time between Sambas,” Gillies said.
“What I do remember from my first twirl around the ‘Dancing’ stage is that the minute it finished, I wished I could do it all over again. Twelve years later that wish has come true. I come into this experience with deep gratitude.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity and I’m thankful that my beautiful friends in the dance community have this chance to shine a light on their talents.”
Gillies continued: “I’m scared but excited. You can learn a lot about yourself when you run towards the hard and difficult things in life. The sense of accomplishment can bring fulfilment. I’m just not sure you’re meant to run in high heel dance shoes? I guess I’m about to find out.”
Others deep in rehearsals for the show are Olympia Valance,Rob Mills and Angie Kent.
