Bachelorette star Angie Kent discovers bondage on new podcast

Bachelorette star Angie Kent has gone on a path of self discovery she has shared with her fans that had few, if any, limits.

She’s had a bondage therapist talk her through her sexual boundaries and tried exposure therapy to overcome her fear of birds.

Now Bachelorette star Angie Kent is on a path of self discover and she’s picking the strangest, funniest and unique ways to do it including seeing a dream doctor interpret her recurring dreams.

What’s more, the Gogglebox alumni has recorded all her “sessions” and sharing the results on her podcast Angie Tries It, including the “invasive and intimidating” sex therapy.

“It’s not everyday you have to test your sexual boundaries in front of a podcast crew of four and a sex therapist who specialises in BDSM you’ve never met before,” she said.

Meanwhile, Kent describes the singing therapy as freeing. “As awkward as I felt, and as bad as my voice was there was something freeing in escaping in the music,” she said. “It was just the fear and the ego getting in the way.”

She also sought exposure therapy to tackle her fear of birds, spiders and her belly button. As the name suggests, coming face-to-face with birds made her realise that so much of it was mental.

“We create so much of our fears in our head. Nothing is as big as our wild thoughts te

nd to make it. Being exposed to my fears and realising I wasn’t in any danger, made it so much less scarier. I still can’t touch my belly button though. That’ll take years of exposure therapy.”

When it comes to her dreams, Kent set out to discover when she met with a ‘Dream Doctor’ Martina Kocian, to seek help for her sleep paralysis.

“I‘ve always been obsessed by dreams. Mine are so vivid. I had a dream book growing up and would record my dreams,” Kent says.

“I have often prayed they don’t mean anything because I’ve had some really strange, trippy dreams.”

However the first thing Kent learnt that there are many different interpretations of dreams, and often, it‘s about the feeling the dream evokes rather than what’s happening.

“I would have this recurring dream that I never graduated high school or that I would continually be late for my favourite school subjects,” she says.

“But I learnt the dream isn‘t related to my memory of school, more to do with something in my life which I’m struggling to finish or get through.”

And in regards to her paralysis (which is a condition where people have a feeling of being conscious, but cannot move), through meditation, Kocian helped her combat it.

“I used to be very scared of it, but she helped explain it‘s nothing to be afraid of. And once I understood that, I actually haven’t had any episodes since.”

She added it‘s important not to get too attached to dreams.

“Annoyingly, just because I dream about Harry Styles it‘s not a premonition that I’m going to end up with him. It’s just I saw a picture of him that day.”

While Kocian adds the reason people are so fascinated by dreams is because of their mysterious and symbolic nature. “There’s something about going to bed at night and journeying into the unknown, having no idea what sort of experience or narrative we’ll bring back on awakening. They offer us experiences that defy everyday reality and reveal something that’s beyond the rational constructs of our brain edges,” she said.

Kent says recording the podcast has been an emotionally overwhelming experience.

“It requires me to be vulnerable and it‘s invasive in a sense. Some of the therapies left me buzzing but others left me feeling really drained.”

But she adds she feels it‘s her calling and especially loved doing the episode with equine therapy.

“I feel like I‘m finally doing something that really resonates with me. And if being vulnerable helps other people, then that’s wonderful.”

But, is there anything she won’t try? “Let’s just say I probably would never nude up for any kind of therapy or anything to do with bulk feet around me,” she jokes. “I can’t see how either of those things would be therapeutic for me. But each their own!”
