Melbourne premiership captain Max Gawn has even more reason to celebrate this year after becoming a dad.

Gawn and wife Jessica welcomed baby George on Wednesday.

“George Oliver Gawn. 27.10.21. Mum was best on, closely followed by George,’’ Gawn wrote on Instagram.

Jessica posted: “You are perfect” with a white love heart.

The couple uploaded adorable pictures with their newborn and were inundated with well wishes.

Earlier this month after returning with the premiership cup from Perth, Gawn told the Herald Sun he was excited but nervous for the new arrival.

Jessica had to call their obstetrician during the grand final after experiencing some mild symptoms. She held on for another month.

“It is getting close and it’s quite nerve-racking, to be honest, that I’ve just gone and partied like a 19-year-old and now I’ve got to be a grown-up 30-year-old within a couple of days, so I’m waiting for that transformation,’’ Max said.

“I speak about being nervous and excited, but the joy comes from when I see him or her.

“We’re not sure what sex the baby is, but I think the joy that’s going to come, once it happens, is going to be better than the joy from the premiership. Or people tell me.”

In May when physiotherapist Jessica announced her pregnancy, Max joked with his trademark humour that he might have a clash with his love of racing.

“Due around Cup Day which is a bit of a dilemma for me,’’ he said on Nova radio.

“Not sure where I’ll be … if I’m two legs up in the quaddie do I leave.

“It’s very exciting. I’m feeling OK, everyone’s warning you that it’s going to change your life but I’m pretty confident I’m going to stay the same person.”

The Gawns married on New Year’s Day last year on the Mornington Peninsula and have been living in Blairgowrie.
