How Demons’ WAGs celebrated Melbourne’s historic grand final win

Melbourne WAGs have revealed how they looked out for Max Gawn’s heavily pregnant wife after she experienced symptoms during Melbourne’s stunning victory.

The partners of Melbourne players have kept a close eye on Max Gawn’s pregnant wife Jessica after she experienced symptoms at half-time on Saturday night.

The girls joked that they feared the grand final excitement could send her into labour.

But Jessica confirmed she did have to call their obstetrician at half-time with a few symptoms which have now settled.

The premiership captain and Jessica spoke on FaceTime after the match, discussing that it was a lot of excitement to take in while 35 weeks pregnant.

Gawn was half-serious when he told Channel 7 Jessica needed to call the doctor twice during the match.

Charlotte Viney, wife of Jack, said the players’ partners were checking in on each other throughout the night.

“I had to keep asking during the game if she was in labour haha,’’ Viney said.

“Our group chats were going off. Just all so excited and happy for the boys after all this time and dark days! They have been incredible!

“I still cannot believe it, just incredible. So well deserved.

“A few of us girls met up this morning to get a standing takeaway coffee to celebrate in some form together.”

Bella Beischer, partner of Christian Petracca, said it was a surreal night.

“I can second Charlotte, the girls chat was going ballistic, particularly in the third quarter when momentum shifted back in our direction,’’ she said.

“I’m so proud of Christian and can’t wait to be reunited with him on Thursday.”

Much of Melbourne’s drought-breaking flag was celebrated by the players’ families at home and over FaceTime.

Proud wives and partners posted their joy at watching the Demons win a long-awaited premiership.

“I guess this is what a 2021 premiership looks like!!!” Danielle Frawley wrote on a picture FaceTiming her partner Angus Brayshaw.

Brayshaw also paid tribute to Frawley and her whole family for their support.

“You did it! Plz come home alive,’’ posted Jessica Gawn, perhaps pre-empting the partying feats of husband Max.

Viney was overcome with emotion: “You did it baby! After all those dark years! You bloody did it! #FLAGDEES”

At one point, she posted “I need a defibrillator’’ as the Demons marched home.

“So proud of you and the journey you’ve been on,’’ she added.

“Same ‘goodnight’ as always,’’ she wrote on a picture of them FaceTiming.

Before the game, she put up pictures of posters she sent over that were raised outside the ground. One read: “Ben, your wife loves you”.

“We love you Daddy! Congratulations!” she wrote.

Ruby McDonald, partner of Tom McDonald, also posted pictures of their FaceTime with family, plus an adorable picture with their baby Leo.
