Why Night King will win George RR Martin’s Game of Thrones

With just two seasons left to go, who will win the Iron Throne? As we settle in to enjoy the machinations of Season Seven, we run the rule over the four main contenders. This week: The Night King

Game of Thrones Season 7: Official Teaser - Sigils

WHO will win the Game Of Thrones and end up sitting on the Iron Throne at the end of the series?

Basically there are four main contenders — Cersei Lannister, Daenerys Targaryen, Jon Snow and the Night King.

Barring a monumental shock (which of course we cannot completely rule out because this is, after all, Game Of Thrones), it will be one of these four.

So which one?

As we reach the halfway point of the long-awaited season seven, we put the case forward for each one of them winning the Game Of Thrones.

The Night King is ready to finally take back Westeros. And he can do it.

THE NIGHT KING

In true fantasy fashion, the “baddies” have to look as though they cannot possibly be defeated.

Usually, of course, the heroes somehow find a way to pull victory from the jaws of defeat — often by throwing a ring into a volcano or some such.

But this is George RR Martin, so this time the baddies could end up winning.

At the moment, it looks like the Night King has this in the bag.

After all, his human opponents are divided and more concerned with fighting each other than him.

Plus, every time there is a battle, he just waves his hands and all the dead rise up to join his army. The wights combine the speed and tenacity of the zombies from World War Z with actual leadership — a team of White Walkers who act like generals to direct their actions.

The White Walkers act like generals for the Night King’s massive army of wights.

Other zombie invasions (think The Walking Dead) can be defeated easily because the troops are so mindless. The Night King’s army is different — undead who will obey orders.

Then there is the whole issue of the creation of the White Walkers.

We saw Craster’s children being turned into them and later learned that they are a creation of the Children Of The Forest, a bunch of weird elf-like types who created them to kill humans.

They worked so well, they also killed off most of the Children as well.

So what is their purpose? Are they just mindless killers or do they have a specific plan, to perhaps right the wrongs that were done by the First Men.

Either way, the odds are heavily in their favour.

Plus, George RR Martin is not afraid of an unhappy ending.

Perhaps the White Walkers end up with Westeros and everyone else has to head east or south for warmth.

Leaving the Night King to sit on the (chilly) Iron Throne.

In any other fantasy series, you would scoff at the thought.

Here, you never know ... remember the first trailer, dubbed sigils? It shows everything falling to dust at the touch of the Night King.

Interesting ...
