Why Jon Snow could die again in Season Seven of Game of Thrones

A vital plot point from George RR Martin’s books has not appeared in the TV series yet. Season seven trailers indicate now could be the time for it to happen.

Kit Harington on the meaning behind Game of Thrones

GAME Of Thrones fans breathed again when beloved hero Jon Snow was brought back from the dead last season — but now there’s a theory that he is going to die in season seven as well.

The good news is, he’ll be brought back to life for a second time.

But he could also die, literally for good, in the final season, to bring one other character back to life — such as Daenerys.

The bottom line is, don’t expect your favourite characters to necessarily stay dead.

It’s all thanks to Beric Dondarrion, the leader of the Brotherhood Without Banners who has been killed and reborn even more times than the number of Starks that have been murdered.

Now, this is where the spoiler alerts begin.

Jon Snow could die in season seven — but will come back to life if that’s the case.

In the books, A Song Of Ice And Fire, one of the key characters is called Lady Stoneheart. She’s actually Catelyn Stark, brought back to vengeful life after the hideous events of the Red Wedding.

As you will remember, it was Red Priest Thoros of Myr that brought Beric back to life — at first by accident.

In the TV show, they meet with Melisandre and that gives her the seed of the idea that ends with her resurrecting Jon Snow in episode two of season six.

In the books — well, we’re not sure how Jon comes back to life, because George RR Martin is STILL writing book six.

But, in ASOIAF, Thoros and Beric fish a very dead Catelyn out of the river after the Red Wedding. Because she has been dead so long, Thoros refuses to try and breathe new life into her.

Beric, on the other hand, won’t accept that and brings Catelyn back to life by transferring his lifeforce into hers.

He dies and she (sort of) lives, where she takes over running the BHB and gets busy hanging anyone who’s remotely related to the Lannisters, Freys or Boltons.

The big prediction for ASOIAF is that Lady Stoneheart heads north and brings Jon Snow back to life, by transferring her life force to his — thus bypassing Melisandre entirely.

We saw Catelyn Stark die in season three of Game Of Thrones but Lady Stoneheart returned soon after in the books.

Back to the TV show, we see a very much alive Beric Dondarrion heading north with the BHB to help out Jon Snow. We also see Beric’s flaming sword used to fantastic effect during one of the season seven trailers.

We know the TV show has not only moved past ASOIAF but also tweaked many of Martin’s plot lines.

As such, we can certainly forget about seeing Lady Stoneheart return to life in the TV show. Things have moved on and Catelyn Stark would be very smelly by now.

However, having Beric give up his (borrowed) life to bring someone else back to life seems like too good a plot device to waste.

After all, he’s up there, he’s helping kill White Walkers ... why not go a step further and save someone?

Obviously it’s not going to be just anybody, as that would be a waste. Reviving Tormund or Edd seems a bit of a let-down.

Exchanging his life for Jon Snow, however, is a very intriguing twist.

Not as intriguing as the further idea that someone who has been magically revived can transfer that to someone else (at the cost of their own lifeforce).

All that’s required is a kiss.

Daenerys may not make it to the end. Or she could get killed and brought back to life.

Imagine if Dany gets killed somehow, perhaps even at the end of GoT. By then, we can safely assume, Jon and Dany will have learned about his parentage and the fact they are actually nephew and aunt.

He might want to bring the dead Dany back. Or he might even do it unwittingly, wishing she were alive and giving her a final kiss goodbye. Back comes Dany and off goes Jon ... and we have the “bittersweet” finale that GRRM promised us.

Either way, it’s a fascinating possibility.
