War with Negan will finish this season but heroes will die
The Walking Dead season eight returns next month and we have already learned the next season will see the end of the war with Negan.
THE war with Negan will finish in the next season of The Walking Dead — but at least one of our heroes will die in the conflict.
That’s the upshot of a series of online stories as The Walking Dead prepares to return on Monday October 23 on Foxtel’s FX Channel.
Get ready, because we do have some potential spoilers coming up!
Showrunner Scott Gimple told Entertainment Weekly that the war will “absolutely be resolved by the end of season eight”.
In the comics, the All Out War storyline between Alexandria, the Hilltop, the Kingdom and Negan creates a real break in the time frame, with the next set of baddies — the Whisperers — not turning up until years later.
This allows the shattered communities to rebuild, for Carl to grow into a teenager (which becomes VERY important to a key storyline in the Whisperer War, where he falls in love with the daughter of the Whisperers’ leader) and for Rick to age.
So this naturally flows into the most shocking scene in the season eight trailer, which showed an elderly Rick lying in a bed, a cane beside him.
So is this a dream sequence or, as some have speculated, the ending of season eight, which will see Rick waking up to events several years after the war with Negan and possibly discovering the first hints of the Whisperers.
If so, including it in the trailer would be a huge step.
The other possibility is they don’t need to jump so far into the future for the TV show because Chandler Riggs (who plays Carl) is already a teenager and so can realistically already have a relationship, given he and Enid are already close.
In other news, fans are concerned for how long Morgan can survive into the war.
Actor Lennie James has signed up to write, direct and star in another series called Save Me.
Last season, the fear was Sasha would die, after Sonequa Martin-Green was cast as the lead in a ne Star Trek series. That fear proved real, with Sasha turning zombie to save the others and almost getting Negan in the process.
But, the good news is Heath could return. Last seen going missing when Tara discovered Oceanside, actor Corey Hawkins’s new role in 24: Legacy is over after the show was cancelled after one season, leaving the door open to him coming back.
The best news is, there is not long to wait ...
