Tunnels of terror, dead cats and even Stranger Things

SPOILER ALERTS Episode four of the second season of Stranger Things sees the Upside Down finally being unleashed on us and the good folk of Hawkins.

IT HAS taken four episodes but things are really moving now in Hawkins as Stranger Things are truly starting to happen in the second season.

Get ready for a spoiler-filled review and discussion of Stranger Things Season 2 Episode 4.

Joyce tries to “snap” Will out of the Upside Down, where the Shadow Monster is infecting him. Note the Demogorgon spawn under Dustin’s cap.

Last episode saw Will “infected” by the Shadow Monster, while Dustin “saved” Dart, the slimy Upside Down spawn-thing that Will puked up last season after being captured by the Demogorgon.

This episode saw the results of that. Firstly, Will can’t take a hot bath because “He” likes the cold. Obviously there is a massive clue there as to how they can defeat this monster. The boys defeated the Demogorgon in their Dungeons & Dragons game by using a fireball. I think they need to learn how to use one for real this time.

But Will is also able to see what the Shadow Monster is doing and, in a frenzied spot of colouring-in, draws a maze of tunnels. Hopper quickly works out what is happening and takes a spade to investigate under the rotting pumpkin patches.

Meanwhile Nancy and Jonathan’s cunning plan to reveal the truth about Hawkins Lab is working nicely. Dr Carter Burke (I can’t help but think of him as the weasel from Aliens) sends his goons to capture them and then, thoughtfully, gives them a nice monologue about his plans that they can record to use later. He also shows them the master entrance into the Upside Down, which is sure to come in handy.

But could this be a double bluff from Dr Carter Burke? Will his goons swoop in again when Nancy tries to hand the tape over to that investigative journalist? If they do, we know he’s a bad egg. If they don’t, then he could actually be the opposite of his predicted character and I’m going to have to call him by his real name.

Eleven busts up the place and then locks herself in her room after a fight with Hopper.

Eleven and Hopper, meanwhile, are butting heads. Why you would piss off a kid who can move things with her mind and blew up the Demogorgon is beyond me but obviously Hopper’s parenting skills need some work. Eleven, by contrast, decides to go searching for her real mother. As we know from last season, her brain is fried, so that’s probably not going to end well. And having their best weapon against the Upside Down wandering off on some cross-country search is also not the best timing.

Because Dustin has discovered that Dart has turned into a small Demogorgon and eaten his pet cat.

Well, I guess it can’t be all bad then …

Anyway, now that is loose and Eleven is heading off, the fur is really going to fly. Oops, guess it already has …

Particularly as Hopper digs down beneath the pumpkin patch and discovers tunnels of Upside Down going right through Hawkins.

Oh, this is getting good now.
