The Walking Dead: Rick and Daryl’s morse code mean Negan’s done his dash

Episode Five takes us to The Hilltop, where Maggie and Sasha are about to meet Saviors. But will we learn the meaning of Rick and Daryl’s morse code messaging?

The Walking Dead: Season 7 Episode 5 trailer

The Walking Dead has taken us to hell and back this season — as well as to The Kingdom, Negan’s Sanctuary and Alexandria.

Now we are going back to The Hilltop, to find out how Maggie is coping after her husband Glenn was killed by Negan and how Sasha is going after seeing Abraham beaten to death while he signed his love to her.

Not too well, one suspects!

The last time we saw Maggie and Sasha was in Episode One.

And things aren’t going too well at The Hilltop either, with Negan’s offsider Simon and a stack of Saviors turning up to turn the place upside down.

Will this be the start of Maggie’s rise to power? Let’s hope so!

Meanwhile, we also see Sasha getting badass. After she lost lover Bob and brother Tyreese she lost the will to live. But the preview shows her sharpening a knife while chomping on a cigar — just like Abraham.

Meanwhile we have proof that Carl did not stow away on the Savior trucks like he did in the comics.

Instead he is seen arguing with Michonne and Rick over what to do next ... and then going over the wall with Enid.

So it’s time for a Carl rampage, it seems ...

Of course, while this is all fascinating, it doesn’t answer the real question for fans: Was Daryl and Rick talking to each other in morse code in the last episode?

Fan forums are going nuts over this theory.

First we had a lingering, some might even say gratuitous view of a morse code poster in Rick’s living room.

Then Daryl seemed to have something wrong with his eyes, blinking a great deal when he met Rick, while there were also shots of Rick fiddling with Negan’s bat, either tapping his fingers on it or tapping it on the ground.

YouTube videos have deciphered Daryl’s message as either “six miles east” or “east of Hilltop”, suggesting he is giving out the location of Negan’s base.

After futilely destroying one of Negan’s outposts and bringing on the deaths of Abraham and Glenn, perhaps Rick is playing a long game here.

We’ll be meeting Paul “Jesus” Rovia again in this episode.

It seems bizarre he did not anticipate Negan taking their guns and hiding a few away. Eugene has already given him the formula for making bullets ... yet he knows he can’t trust all the Alexandrians (Spencer, anyone?)

Is he trying to learn all he can before turning the tables on Negan?

Of course he is!
