The Walking Dead: Jesus is gay, Eugene’s no traitor but Dwight is

The Walking Dead’s episode 14 of season 7 saw shocks and sacrifices: Sasha may be dead, Dwight may be the mystery figure at the end, Eugene isn’t a traitor and Jesus admits he is gay.

The Walking Dead Season Seven Episode 14 preview

THIS was only episode 14 of The Walking Dead’s season seven but it ended on a cliffhanger worthy of a season finale.

Who is the furtive figure with a crossbow hiding in the shadows? Is it Daryl, as we are meant to think, or is it Dwight?

My money is on Dwight and this is the start of him betraying Negan.

We see Daryl earlier, at The Hilltop, with bow over his shoulder but, remember, it took Sasha and Rosita hours to get to the Saviors and they had to get a car. Daryl only likes to walk. Remember, their abortive attempt to shoot Negan came about when the Saviors returned in their trucks from Hilltop. This means that Daryl couldn’t have time to walk there.

The second big cliffhanger or, perhaps, red herring, is Sasha and Rosita trying — and failing — to free Eugene.

Rosita strangely decided a sniper rifle is best for fighting in corridors in Episode 14.

First they hear Eugene waxing lyrical as “Dr Eugene Porter, Chief Engineer” and then as they break into the fence, they discover Eugene and offer to free him. He refuses to go with them and runs back inside, causing Rosita to call him a “lying sack of shit” and convincing many online forums that Eugene is now a traitor.

Hello, has anyone actually been watching the last seven seasons? Eugene’s words were spoken with care, to give the impression that he is a traitor. But he obviously has another plan in mind. Frankly, I wouldn’t have gone with Rosita and Sasha, either. The pair of them have been acting crazy and Rosita’s pathetic attempt at killing Negan in Alexandria proves she can’t plan to save her life. Or, in that case, to save Olivia’s life.

Maggie and Enid have been teaching the Hilltoppers how to fight.

Obviously the producers want you to think Eugene has flipped because then it’s more fun when he reveals his true heroism.

Incidentally, in the comics he escapes with the help of Negan’s doctor. And who has just arrived at the compound? That’s right, Hilltop’s doctor, who wants to get back home, especially after Negan stuck his brother in the furnace.

Meanwhile, Sasha has gone off on a suicide mission to kill Negan, while locking Rosita out of the compound. It was a great touch and followed on from the pair of them bonding. It was beautiful work.

Will we see Sasha again? Weeelll, given Sonequa Martin-Green has signed up as a lead on a new Star Trek series, my bet is Sasha missed the turning for Negan’s bedroom and ended up on the deck of the Starship Enterprise.

Still, this episode also gave us some fantastic character moments and a couple of key plot points.

The emotion of Daryl’s apology to Maggie was brilliant, as was the weaselling of Gregory towards Negan’s lieutenant Simon.

Daryl’s moment with Maggie was the best lines he’s had all season.

We also got a nice little teaser that Simon has given Gregory directions to the Savior compound and told the guards that “Gregory” can be admitted any time. That’s going to come back to haunt someone.

Finally, why is that Jesus can have hair and beard groomed like he’s about to walk down a runway, while Daryl looks as though he’s wearing a drowned cat on his head and has its bedraggled kitten stapled to his chin?

Yes, we got the little line that Jesus is actually gay (a phrase that could really set off some internet search engines) but, really, that’s the explanation for his glorious locks when everyone else looks like the “before” shot in a hairwash advertisement?

Jesus reveals he’s gay, so presumably that’s the reason he’s so well groomed.

Anyway, things are moving ahead very nicely for a big couple of episodes to finish the season. But how are we going to wait all the way to October for season eight?
