The Walking Dead: Episode 6 kicks into gear and starts kicking butt

The Walking Dead Episode 6 will meet new people in interesting places and then stab them in the head. And about bloody time to!

Trailer: The Walking Dead S7E6

FINALLY, like a rusty old getaway car being pursued by zombies, The Walking Dead looks like it’s about to lurch into gear and really get moving.

After the horror of the first episode, the next four have generally faffed around and failed to get us to where we want to go — an alliance of strongholds uniting against Negan.

We may not see that in episode six but it looks like we’re finally going to see some action.

Tara and Heath are back, after going off on a supply run at the end of season six. And they’ve had some trouble, judging by the preview clips. There’s lots of running and hiding and hitting people, which is all good.

Carol needs to find out what’s been happening and get back to killing baddies.

We also know we are going back to The Kingdom, to see what Morgan and Carol are up to. Hopefully it’s been a lot, because there’s plenty to catch up on. They need to find out what has happened at Alexandria and then get back to The Kingdom smartish, to get Ezekiel on board.

We also see Negan ready to deliver his version of a pep talk to his people. I imagine the full version will be kind of like Hitler’s Nuremberg rally, as reimagined by David Brent from The Office.

Plus we see shots of a worried Daryl and a depressed Dwight. We can only hope this does not include more annoying music or, worse, more clips of Who’s The Boss?

Incidentally, was that a big hint right there? Dwight doesn’t agree with who is his boss?

Best of all, we see Rick and Aaron discovering a new bunch of people on their supply run.

Now this is what we want to see — multiple storylines and quickfire action, cutting back and forth between competing characters, with less of the long, arty shots of Enid and Carl rollerblading through the woods.

We want to meet interesting people in new places and then stab them in the skull. That’s what the show is about, dammit!

We’re getting back to the guts of it. Literally, if we’re lucky.

The Walking Dead screens on Foxtel’s FX Channel on Mondays at 1.30pm and 8.30pm and catch it again on Tuesdays from 2.30pm.
