I want Strand to go out in a blaze of glory, fighting to the bitter end

COLMAN Domingo is not just the face behind the incredible character of Victor Strand from Fear The Walking Dead, he’s also the amazing voice. And he reveals how he’d like Strand to end.

COLMAN Domingo has a very clear idea about how his Fear The Walking Dead character Victor Strand should die.

“Go out in a blaze of glory, fighting to the bitter end,” Domingo said.

“It doesn’t matter if he’s shot or bitten, he’d just keep going to protect his friends.”

Strand has had a few narrow escapes so far in the three seasons, including being abandoned by Daniel Salazar in a zombie-infested hotel, but Domingo certainly doesn’t hope to see the end of Strand, a character he enjoys playing nearly as much as fans enjoy watching.

Instead, he hopes that Strand — who lost his soulmate Thomas Abigail to a zombie bite — will find love again.

“I would go with him finding love. At the core, that’s who Victor Strand is,” he said.

But if he does go out in that “blaze of glory”, expect it to be saving Madison Clark (Kim Dickens).

In the last couple of episodes we saw some of that, where Strand instantly saw how Madison had lost Travis (Cliff Curtis) and was able to comfort her — and she saved him from a war lord, even though it risked everything.

“They have an intense and incredible relationship,” Colman said.

“They love and care for each other. It’s not romantic, it’s a new way to define how a man and woman feel about each other.”

Strand has shown a real ability to outsmart both zombies and humans in the last couple of episodes and Domingo said that we haven’t seen all of his talents yet.

“He has many tricks up his sleeve,” he said.

“We may found out he knows how to fly a plane. He has these talents, he even surprises himself.”

Of course, when you think of Strand, you think of that incredible voice. From the moment we heard it, way back in episode five of season one, it has captivated viewers.

So where does it come from?

“Well, obviously it comes from me,” Domingo said with a laugh.

“He lives in that rich bass, it’s something he built and created for himself.

“It’s a strong voice, it can be soothing or menacing and it has such colour and tone.”

Domingo admitted he had never been into zombie shows but came back from acting in the West End of London and was won over by the character of Strand.

“I didn’t watch any of those shows,” he said.

“I like to get away from things with comedy shows, that’s what I’m drawn to. I’ve watched about half an episode each of two episodes of The Walking Dead but I don’t want to know too much about how people develop in that world.

“We’re still in the early stages (in FTWD).”

Strand, along with Madison and Walker, are heading back to a ranch that has been overrun by the undead.

Let’s hope he doesn’t need to worry about going out in a blaze of glory yet.

Fear The Walking Dead season three continues on Mondays at 7.30pm on Foxtel’s FX.
