Game Of Thrones season seven on our screens in June — or will it?

The internet movie bible, IMDB, released a start date for season seven of Game Of Thrones, then took it down. Was it a mistake or was it a reveal?

AFTER months of waiting, we may have a release date for Game Of Thrones season seven.

The website Internet Movie Data Base (IMDB) posted that the season seven premiere would be June 25 — but then it took it down again.

Unsurprisingly, that briefly sent the internet rumour mill into overdrive.

There has been nothing official from HBO, while IMDB is a user-driven website, somewhat like Wikipedia, where changes can be made (and corrected).

The usual GoT April launch date had to be pushed back because filming started later, to allow the settings to appear as if winter has indeed come to Westeros.

We already knew it would be in the northern hemisphere summer, so June 25 does indeed sound plausible as there will only be six or seven episodes in season seven — although each will be longer than the usual, expected to be an hour long.

June 25 would see the season finishing in early August, which is into the American and UK summer school holidays.

Usually you would expect the season to finish before then but, as filming is still underway in Iceland and elsewhere, late June may be the earliest we can expect.

Foxtel, which exclusively screens Game Of Thrones in Australia, was contacted but merely replied: “With everyone out on annual leave at the moment, we don’t have any comments to offer”.

We will obviously have to wait for more ...

Each episode of series seven will be a feature-length one, similar to the Battle Of The Bastards, which featured the end of Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Rheon) and, sadly, Rickon Stark (Art Parkinson).

In other news, George RR Martin has dropped a strong hint on his blog, called Not A Blog, that he will attend the 2017 WorldCon in Helsinki, Finland, in August.

“And yes, come to worldcon if you can. The best place to meet and hang with your favorite writers. Including me...” he wrote.

He is also apparently thinking about the National Football League draft — but nothing about progress on Winds of Winter.

Still, cult TV fans can take heart that The Walking Dead returns on Monday February 13 at 1.30pm and 7.30pm.

And Foxtel’s FX has great hopes for its new series Legion, about the son of Professor X from The X-Men. Legion kicks off on February 9 at 7.30pm.
